Kerry v Cork

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Another meeting of the rivals, last years AI winners against this years league winners: Kerry are playing at home and tend to win or draw on homeground. However, Kerry has had to replace nearly a third of their starting 2009 AI winning team and may also have to do without Galvin and Donaghy due to injuries, midfield is weak and five of the six defence players are in their 30s. Kerry were inconsistent in the league and barely hung on to their Div 1 status while Cork stormed through demonstrating a hunger, something to prove and a depth of skillful players. Cork in recent times have done well in Munster with Kerry their main achilles heel in Croke Park. However, Kerry have not won Munster since 2007 and may want to go through the front door this time (especially after last years struggles); still the doubts about Galvin and Donaghy leave a further hole with talks of Darran O Sullivan and the less experienced but eagar Barry John Keane replacing them. Am expecting a good match, are Cork going to show their cards in Killarney or will they be cuter. If Galvin (with no red cards) and Donaghy are playing, I would be optimistic for Kerry-otherwise, it may be the back door yet again!

yeah, somehow I suspect they make a recovery towards the end of the week... - it's funny it's got to the stage now with Kerry management playing headgames prior to matches (they're not alone in that God knows...) that I automatically discount any news like this in the run up to a big game.

kerrykerry - Agree with most of your points, ultimately Sunday won't decide a whole lot unless the loser happens to slip up in the qualifiers. Still except both teams to make the quarters at least and probably the semis.

There's a fair amount of received wisdom doing the rounds around the idea that Kerry need to win more, because their older legs will find the qualifiers harder going. There's a group of hurlers on leeside who demonstrated yesterday in very clear and certain terms what supposedly 'older legs' can do....

Really looking forward to it now, If the ref isn't too fussy I expect a cracking game - it's a game that'll need a light touch when it comes to reffing. These teams are not prone to unnecessary pulling and dragging but tend to get cranky when reffed too tightly.

I fully expect to leave Fitzgerald stadium hoarse and probably sunburned!

Although I think this one should still have an edge to it, will either team be too worried if they lose?

Anyone got an idea about the colour scheme on the terrace for fitzgerald Stadium? Its Blue, Green and Red. Can't remember which are where, just want to know which are for centre of the terrace? Ticketmaster, Munster GAA or Kerry GAA websites don't show.....how am I to remember 12 months on!

I had the same problem - Ticketmaster cs rep didn't have a clue (some dude in the UK - how would he?)- ended up having to phone the Munster Council and even they didn't know - they had to get someone to phone me back.
Long story short this is what they told me

Terrace Green - Kerry section (presumeably the right of the long terrace as you look at it from the stand & behind the goasl at the daltons avenue end)
Terrace Red- Cork section - presumeably behind the goals on the lewis road side
Terrace Blue - mixed (presumeably the left side of the terrace as you look at it from the stand 9 closest to the lewis road entrance)

hope that helps - bought a blue ticket myself as the red sold out while I was waiting for the Munster Council to get back to me. Happy enough there anyway.

They really need to get a new seating plan on ticketmaster....

It's a home game for Kerry , so that should be a slight advantage. In my humble opinion , if Kerry break even at midfield they should win it.

kerry have point to prove to cork, with players they lost this year people expect cork to win this years all ireland but i feel cork could fall to pieces with 1 defeat, i know thats a bold statement but they are not the finished article yet my money is on kerry to win on sun.

Not being a WUM but my honest gut feeling on this match is Cork will swot Kerry away like errant house fly on Sunday. For me Kerry are going once too often to the well with their current defence especially. I just can't see the Kerry defence or midfield holding out against the power, pace and a year's more experience of this really hurting, hungry and driven Cork side. Expect a rampant Cork to power home by 7-10 points.

Thank you Traleeexcile.
I certainly am smelling blood and I think you know you'll smell plenty of blood and bandage come Sunday. I notice talk coming out already from Kerry about injuries - no doubt excuses are being prepared for the Monday after.

The entire Kerry squad is injured folks! Running scared more like - Mick McCarthy is the latest to cry 'woe is me'!
The Kerry boys just can't take an honourable beating and are getting their excuses in already. Roll on the understrength headlines about missing players from Kerry on Monday. Cork are a better team now and they know it.
