Have Mayo any chance of Sam?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Personally I think not. They dont have the forwards, they dont have the centrefield to beat any of Tyrone, Kerry, Dublin or Cork in Croke Park this year. They are going backwards. They might win Connacht but if they do, it will only serve as proof to everyone else just how god awful Connacht football is these days.
Kildare, Limerick, Down, Donegal, Meath and Derry would all win Connacht if they were in it.

I think Limerick would definitely win Connacht. In fact I think they'll win Sam this year as well. I'm off to the bookies.

I'd disagree with that... They dont have the forwards or MF to beat Kerry, Cork and maybe Tyrone (Although they had them beat in 2008 until SK threw the ball over the bar) but thye def have what it takes to beat Dublin.

Mayo are ahead of Dublin... no question about that.

Kildare, Limerick, Down, Donegal, Meath and Derry wouldn't have a chance if they were in Connacht, i truly beleive that leinster is by far the weakest provice, its a monopoly there and theres not a sign of any thing different for the years to come.. Kildare are the most over-rated team in the country, couldn't even beat a poor dublin team with 14 men..... And remember that both galway and mayo beat the dubs this year when they were treating the league like the champo

I think you underestimate Mayo and Connacht football a bit. Mayo have been consistently been in the top bracket of teams since the late 90s. Since 1996 they have been in 4 All Irelands and were knocked out by the eventual All Ireland Champions on 4 or 5 other occasions. They've won a League, U21, 2 club All Irelands in that time and been in two minor All Irelands in recent years, thats a lot more success than the counties you mentioned above can claim in recent years. Their form in the League would suggest they are a top 6 side at least but probably not good enough to win Sam.

As for Connacht football, Sligo and Galway will both do well this year in my opinion.

No, not this year. They are capable of one big scalp but to win Sam they would need to beat two out of Kerry, Tyrone & Cork and thats not going to happen this year. But they are a coming team.

Mikeynora - yet another thread about mayo, some people are obsessed. stick to worrying about your own shambles of a hurling team mate.

You are having a laugh throw it. Football wise Connacht is a soft province mentally and physically, as Mayo continue to prove, and your 'Championship' is a walk in the park. Galway's recent All Irelands are now a memory and really a blip in what is a dreadfully poor province football wise. The teams you mentioned would be contesting Connacht finals every year at the expense of bad Mayo and Galway sides who currently could put their ladies out and still qualify for finals there.

If Mayo keep coming they way they have been.... there wont be a single new born baby in Mayo for a long time.

I would be the type to be critical of Connacht football, but it is pushing it to say those teams "wouldnt have a chance". They'd have every chance!

I think Mayo have a chance of winning SAM this year their biggest problem seems to be a psychological one when it comes to playing big games at Croke Park they never seem to do themselves justice, as they certainly have the quality of player at their disposal.

Rhubarb they are not good enough full stop, bottlers of the highest order. Along with Cork last year they have missed the boat.

One of a possible six contenders but I can't see past Cork this year although the Dub's could give it a good rattle .

Ulsterman - connacht teams very soft and poor? did sligo not beat ye only a few weeks ago. mayo or galway would beat antrim. that leaves roscommon and leitrim who are very tought to beat at home anyway. connacht isnt the worst provience.
