It appears there must be a serious lack of quality players in Wicklow when a player can come back to the country two days before a championship game meaning he hasn't taken part in one training session and gets straight back onto the team. I never understood why Wicklow have such a poor record in gaelic games. I would have thought they would have a strong enough club scene and large enough population with it being so close to Dublin. NavyNBlue (Dublin) - Posts: 1357 - 14/05/2010 10:38:45 646800 Link 0 |
Poor is right, they only used 17 players or so in last years championship and thats only because 2 players got injured. MattieG (Galway) - Posts: 62 - 14/05/2010 11:19:42 646862 Link 0 |
They are all soccer and rugger heads in Wicklow. Even down south in Arklow they wouldn't be much into GAA. ColinWex (Wexford) - Posts: 901 - 14/05/2010 11:26:46 646875 Link 0 |
I think it's fair to say Wicklow haven't produced one quality player in either code ever. That's truly a remarkable achievement pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 14/05/2010 11:33:59 646887 Link 0 |
I cant understand why people come on here and say bad things about other counties, ye can talk just because the county ye live in has some good players, believe me footballers in counties like wicklow train and try as hard as players in other teams, so get off yer high horse yis are well able to hate on people computer hoggers Biffo (Carlow) - Posts: 91 - 14/05/2010 11:45:19 646899 Link 0 |
He played in the National League against Waterford and has been around for the majority of league matches. I was shocked when I seen drafted in. I knew he was working abroad but as far as I knew he was training while away Southern Dandy (Wicklow) - Posts: 789 - 14/05/2010 11:48:53 646906 Link 0 |
Pemroy. Kevin O'Brien and Leighton Gynn not quality? Ciaran Hyland is one of best man markers in Ireland Southern Dandy (Wicklow) - Posts: 789 - 14/05/2010 11:50:01 646907 Link 0 |

Good in Wicklow? Was the Irish international rules team always 15 Tyrone players? Southern Dandy (Wicklow) - Posts: 789 - 14/05/2010 11:59:36 646928 Link 0 |
I couldn't care less about the International Rules team, stupid sport that I have no interest in. It was good of them to give Leighton Glynn a run out though, was a nice gesture towards the smaller counties if rather patronising. Needless to say if it was based on the best players Leighton would have been nowhere near it pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 14/05/2010 12:12:41 646949 Link 0 |
Pomeroy - Kevin O'Brien won an all-star and was widely regarded as one of the best footballers of his time. He was also very successful in the compromise rules team that went down to Oz in 1990. NavyNBlue (Dublin) - Posts: 1357 - 14/05/2010 12:14:45 646953 Link 0 |

I give up Pemeroy. You may step back from those rose tinted glasses and realise that players such as Glynn, Hyland even Murphy (Carlow) O'Lionain (waterford) tubridy (clare) All divison 4 players have quality. Would problably make nearly every county team Southern Dandy (Wicklow) - Posts: 789 - 14/05/2010 12:29:49 646975 Link 0 |

Look PomeroyPlunkett it took Tyrone UNTIL 1924 to win their FIRST Championship Match, so don't be so smug. It was wasn't always the way that people feared Tyrone by the way. I like Tyrone but your arrogance knows no bounds. If it's not Division 1, the Ulster championship or the big teams you close your ears and eyes. Yes Wicklow have had some good player. There were a couple of good players in football around the same time as O'Brien, was it Day or Daly they had too. ColinWex (Wexford) - Posts: 901 - 14/05/2010 13:20:54 647059 Link 0 |
