Nemo Rangers / Irish rugby team controversy

I was just reading this today and the hypocrisy of the powers that be in croke park is just amazing. Their talking about punishing Nemo rangers for letting the Irish rugby team use their facilities. Have we not been letting the irish rugby team use croker for the last four years for copious amounts of money? Nemo only did the Rugby team a good turn. Our local rugby club longford rfu have let club teams train on their pitches for years when gaa pitches have been unavailable for whatever reason. We are in the 21st century now and primitive rules like rule 5.1 have to be done away with, most of us watch and support the irish rugby and soccer teams so why are idiotic rules such as this still in existence?

Yep, totally agree Bosco. Read somewhere that some GAA teams over in Europe use Rugby and Soccer pitches. Certainly double standards!

I agree. Altough I don't follow rugby or soccer if Nemo Rangers are punished/fined then there are huge hypocrites in the GAA (although there are anyway)

Agree, the GAA would not survive outside of Ireland without help from other sports. And as Longford lad has posted, we got a lot of help from them at home too. The GAA got a lot of praise and positive coverage from letting rugby use Croke Park and now seem to want to unravel it by punishing Nemo. They would be doing this against the will of 99.99% of the members of the association. The person that thinks that punishing Nemo is any way the right thing to do should be ran out of our association and never be allowed near a GAA pitch again. We do not need friends like this.

Its anti-cork discrimination again from HQ. Nicky Brennan started it all and Cooney isn't doing anything to stop it.

The rule should be changed, but it hasnt, so rules is rules unfortunately.

Castlemaine, I agree rules are rules but you can't have headquarters breaking these rules when it suits them and then punishing clubs for doing the same thing.

A local rugby club has allowed us to train under their floodlights during the dark winter months but this stupid rule dictates that if asked we could not return that favour. One good turn...

Also was at training the other day and a couple of local kids were playing soccer on our pitch when we arrived, don't tell Croke park.

Proc why don't you cop yourself on, you are letting down Cork and other Cork posters on this site. This has nothing to do with anti-Cork feelings, the facts are that for years and years it was the Cork County Board who were the most entrenched problematic Board in the Country. Nemo are a first class Club even though I don't support them on the field. If the GAA sanction them they will be shooting themselves in the foot.

Spy HQ dont break the Rule, congress allowed it. Nemo got funding from Croke Park for facility yet its not part off the GAA grounds now. Nemo broke the rule ans shouls be heavily sanctioned.

Seriously? You think they should be 'heavily' sanctioned? Cop on will ya.. I'm no Nemo fan but lets get real here.

That's a real 'blazer' attitude and while it may well be a correct adherence to the rules it's reeks of hypocrisy when headquarters can be rented out. Actually that attitude effectively reeks of 'blazer' and 'anorak' at the same time -quite the sartorial achievement...

its a joke. there are many players in the gaa that play rugby too. especially with irish rugby in croke park there really should be no problem at all!!

The GAA will be a laughing stock if they go through with this. It's time for them to come out of the dark ages.

I am a traditionalist 100% when it comes to GAA but this is laughable! I agree that this would be against 99.99 % of Gaa members! What about renting indoor training facilities to soccer/rugby/badminton....where do they draw the line?

This should be a club decision end of!

Good luck with that. Not with a Solas factory

Anybody with Nemo connections able to get an inside line on this? It sounds bizarre - surely this is just being hyped up? If it turns out to be true, I'd suggest that other clubs that have good arrangements with other sports in their area all confess their sins in support of Nemo. I've said it elsewhere on here before, personally, if it came to it, I'd prefer kids to even play soccer on a GAA pitch than sit in front of the tv.

Taken from the Ulster GAA website -

"Game of Three Halves Game of Three Halves
Ulster GAA has today joined forces with Ulster Rugby and the Irish Football Association, along with PeacePlayers International, at the Civil Service Sports Pavillion in East Belfast to launch a new initiative known as 'A Game of 3 Halves'"

Just so long as its not on holy GAA ground - ye gotta laugh really.
