I feel sorry for The Mort

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I really hope this guy isnt going to be remembered as "the greatest player never to win an all ireland". Year after year he bursts a gut for his county only to see his teammates fall down on the biggest days. He cannot continue to carry this team on his back. It would be one of life's great tragedies if The Mort was to finish his career without that coveted all ireland medal

Has the ash cloud dumped a load of its contents over west Connacht?! Must be something in the Mayo air. ;-)
I would think there are players other than Conor Mort who deserved an all-ireland and didn't win one. Ciaran Mac would be the obvious case for Mayo.

You talking about Conor Mortimer? Last years fiasco when he revealed his "Michael Jackson RIP" t-shirt after schoring a goal proved what a person he really is. In regards to Mayo's hopes of winning the All Ireland - won't even win Connaught. I admire the resolve of the Mayo supporters who delusionally believe that every year is "their year". The reality is another knock out at the hands of an average team - we only have to look back to last years loss to Meath as an example. Mayo were completey outclassed by a team that had been hammered by Dublin only a few weeks before. Get real whiterbananas.

I know, such a selfless act. Even in his own moment of glory he was thinking of others

That's not really the point now Pudders is it. It was the gesture. One global superstar paying tribute to another

Well don't worry he won't be. He'll be remembered as one of a thousand mediocre players who didn't win an All-Ireland

He's far too advanced for the Gaa. They like fellas with "Gaa haircuts" and Gaa walks, you know the one I mean the "missing link walk". Far too risky mentioning Michael Jackson, imagine kids might listen to his music or something and they might realise there really is more to life than the old fashioned out of touch Gaa.

Roll on the World Cup so we can see the beautiful game. I suppose it's banned in dear oul Irlund is it………..well you can always walk to the UK and watch it in some safe house. Lol.

He flopped badly in 2 All Ireland finals. Can hardly be considered a great player then.

Its gr8 u admire the resolve of the Mayo supporters but i think its a case of pot callin kettle. How long have ye been on about this all ireland minor team delivering something at senior. And i do believe they is a great distance between division 1 final to playing division 4 football next yr. But sure ye will be grand when them minors come through. Suppose ye could have a thread in Roscommon about the greatest roscommon player never 2 win a connaught title but i honestly dont think great and a roscommon player go together. Get real Headhunter

hes considered great as he is in a county of average footballers, put him with the elite players and he's probably average to good

You're mad if you think Conor Mortimor is the best player never to win an All Ireland - he's a good forward, but can't even be classed as the best Mayo player never to win an All Ireland.

If you want unlucky, look no further than Declan Browne. Not only one of the best players never to win an All Ireland, but probably the best ever not to win a provincial title. There are many examples of Declan Browne taking on the opposition single handedly. My personal favourite was on one of the few occasions he got to play at Croker, against Wexford in the Tommy Murphy Cup in 2005. It was billed as Declan Browne vs Mattie Forde, but Browne won it hands down, as he ripped Wexford to shreds that day, and Tipp won the cup.

Africagael: Football / Soccer whatever you want to call it is no longer the beautiful game. The amount of money, cheating, negative defensive tactics etc have made it a rather ugly sport. I grew up watching it, but have become disillusioned with the obssession with money.

Your comment about watching it in safe houses made me simle though. Are you and PROC Hurler the same person?! Seems to be an intent to gain as much attention as possible. Mind you, if you love Soccer / football then that is no surprise really!

It's not that he couldn't spell Michael, he's just an extremely commited Gaeilgeoir.

God you're a fair pessimist WB! Who says The Mort is going to finish his career without an A-I medal..? I've a sneaking feeling that he won't have to... I must look out for one on e-Bay for him!
