The wide of all wides!

Re: Ballboy
Also Charlie Redmond's penalty against Donegal in 1992 was about as bad as it gets, nowhere near the target.

One of my favourite sporting moments of all time. Even better than red Declan pumping the fist after his point near the end!

Lockjaw, what a memory. Bonner goes on the right, cuts inside on the left and swings a vicious punt over the bar, magic...

Cannot remember the name of the red-haired Derry lad who kicked a wide at the death against Donegal last year in championship when it was easier to score but that was also fantastic. It was kicked out and the ref blew!

Kildare against Offaly, All Ireland Qualifer in Newbridge, think it was 2005. Dermo Early missed an open goal from about two yards out. The fact that he put it wide was a feat in itself, as the angle was so acute.

Remember Dessies one like it was yesterday. Sitting in the front few rowns of the Hogan Stand with some ignoramus from Westmeath sitting behind me who spent the entire game shouting abuse at every single Meath player. He gave all the Meath fans around him dogs abuse when the free was given and even started celebrating as he kicked it without waiting to see if it went over. Never seen a man like that shut up so quickly.

I remember Dessie went on to have a nightmare in the replay. Didn't score and he even missed a penalty.

626937 Can remember going to see Dublin take on Roscommon in the qualifiers in 2004, and it was followed up by Laois v Tyrone. Shortly before half time (and Tyrone well out of sight) Ross Munnelly lined up a free even closer to the posts than Dessie Dolan's effort, but still managed to put it wide - I'd argue it was a worse wide than Dessie Dolan's, but nowhere near as significant, which is why it tends to be forgotten. Also remember Ray Cosgrove hitting the post from a free directly in front of the posts against Kildare in the 2002 Leinster final (only a couple of minutes after his goal), which again is forgotten about as we went on to win the game. It was a lot worse than his miss against Armagh, but nowhere near as costly. Also Charlie Redmond's penalty against Donegal in 1992 was about as bad as it gets, nowhere near the target.

The mother and father of all misses still belongs to Dessie Dolan though.

I doubt you must have been on the old buckfast in 2004 as I don't recall playing Laois that year. We did play them in 2006 in a monsoon in Portlaoise when the half time score was 0-5 to 0-3, but maybe not as you seem to think that Tyrone were out of sight?? I remember Mugsy missing a handy one against Dublin in 08 after about 51 minutes but at that time Tyrone were well and truely out of sight

Was sitting half way up the canal end right bang in the middle when Dessie stepped up and as i recall i was annoying both meath and westmeath fans by dismissing Dessies chances of scoring. Of course that was all tongue in check, i fully expected him to tap it over but then again who didn't, anyway that was a fantastic miss made even better by the fact that i 'predicted' it and made absolutely glorious after my mates all bought me a few points for my nostradamus like abilities :-)

Omaghredhand, perhaps you were still in a drunken haze from celebrating your all ireland win in 2003, hence the reason you don't remember very much about the 2004 championship. You played Laois in 2004 at Croke Park, and if I remember rightly, the score was something like 3-15 to 2-5 in Tyrone's favour. Its a game best remembered for Beano McDonald breaking his leg, and Ryan McMenamin's immediate call for help as he saw the state of Beano's leg.

If you still can't remember, you're probably familiar with a function called google search. go on....just type in tyrone v laois 2004.....that's it.....bring back any memories???
