Best 20 football forwards in Ireland

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see Donnacha O'Connor, Pearce O'Neill, Daniel Goulding & Paul Kerrigan all appearing on multiple lists here, but little sign of Paddy Kelly. Would be interested to hear what the Cork lads think, but Id've thought that Kelly should be getting at least as much a mention as any of those, probably more. I think he is a very under-rated player, and would love to have him on the Tyrone team!

Thomas Clarke i totally agree with you, I only had Dan Goulding and Pa Kelly in my list from Cork. I would put him well ahead of D.O'Connor anyway, for some reason Im gone right off him since last year!

I see some poster has CJ Mc Gourty in the list why ? because not worthy in there to be fair.

Somebody has Mugsy who seems to have retired in 2005, Dooher, who has retired, and Stephen O'Neill, permanently injured in their list.

Mind you it is one poster, he/she also has Iggy Jon3es listed.

CJ has played in about 5 or 6 all Ireland finals, scored 4-5 from PLAY in an Ulster football final, or was it 4-6 or was that the hurling final, I keep gettoing mixed up.

Suffice to say in those two Ulster finals he has scored more than the FOUR Tyrone forwards somepne posted.

Explain how I am being childish? I merely asked where it said county players only, you are being childish by refusing to rate Mc Gourty on the basis that he does not play county football.

Dell is daft.

He mixes up CJ and Kevin.Kevin is the envy of Tuyrone, who does not play for the county, best centre half forward in Ireland.

CJ plays county football AND hurling.

Dell doesn't know that because CJ does NOT play for Man United.

From Meath I think Brian Farrell is shaping to have a great summer. He was away for a while and only had a few minutes against Kildare but on his day he can be brilliant.

My ideal set of 6 forwards would be;

Paul Kerrigan, Declan O'Sullivan, Peadar Byrne(totally biased I know but I love his enthusiasm and pride for the Meath Jersey)
Colm Cooper, Michael Murphy, Benny Coulter.

J.P rooney would walk on to any intercounty team. In my opinion the best GAA player of all time.

Urizen I wouldn't even have Peader Byrne on the Meath team!

Patrique: Regardless of whether Stephen O'Neill is 'permanently injured', he is still one of the top 20 forwards in the country. The original post asked who posters think are the best 20 forwards, not the best 20 who are available all the time. Otherwise Paul Galvin would have to be discounted for the amount of time he is suspended!

Beano??? When was the last time you watched Gaelic Football?
How would you be aware that McNamee wasn't up to it if you are enquiring if Beano is still on the scene. I'm afraid you dont make sense at all 'Rossy'

You've missed my point noko2. Patrique said people included Stephen O'Neill even though he was permanently injured. My point was that, despite him having a few injuries, he is still one of the best forwards in the country. If he was to be discluded because he was injury prone then Paul Galvin would similarly have to be discluded cos of his suspensions! (That was meant to be a tad tongue in cheek as well!)

How many counties would not have Mugsy in their starting line up if available?

Not many, if any!

have to agree with peter duffy. JP rooney is world class and if it wasnt for injury Colm judge would walk onto any team in the country. How are louth so bad if they have 2 of the best 20 forwards in the country. I fear a big upset in leinster this year and that the red army will be still in the championship come september.
