alot of people make this mistake about the economic weight of the 6 counties being too much to bear for a new republic comprising the whole island. this is rubbish. a 32 county republic will come about slowly but surely. from partition through to civil rights and electoral reform on to the sunningdale and finally the good friday. All of these things prove one thing: the achievement of total independence from british rule will not come about berlin wall style. we won't wake up one morning and have gardaí patrolling the shankill road.
