We'd be better of under the Brits

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This thread has quickly descended into a farce after the original poster put an interesting point to debate out there. You don't have to agree with him(I don't) but it would be nice if for once ye could just debate the point at hand without giving us all a history lesson.

Its ok MaighEo am willing to forgive and forget.
If madasbutter, ta32 ,etc want to talk rubbish then so be it.

alot of people make this mistake about the economic weight of the 6 counties being too much to bear for a new republic comprising the whole island. this is rubbish. a 32 county republic will come about slowly but surely. from partition through to civil rights and electoral reform on to the sunningdale and finally the good friday. All of these things prove one thing: the achievement of total independence from british rule will not come about berlin wall style. we won't wake up one morning and have gardaí patrolling the shankill road. It is a slow process of handing power back to ireland.

what does this mean in economic terms? the brits aren't going to overnight pull the plug on its funding of northern ireland. nobody except maybe RIRA want such madness. By the time the country is reunited it will make economic sense. Having said that, I think this 32 county republic is a fair way off yet.

Interesting thread, started as a wum obviously but interesting nonetheless.
