Brian Mullins was an outstanding midfielder. He was not, in my humble opinion, as mobile, as fast or as complete a footballer as the incomparable, unmarkable, unstoppable Jack O Shea. Greengrass (Louth) - Posts: 6181 - 14/04/2010 18:25:07 617593 Link 0 |
Good fielding of the ball, able to offload quickly. Tall physical presence who has an eye for a pass into the fullforward line and most of all, is able to make darting runs through the opposition defense. Best example.. Darragh O'Se 69r (Galway) - Posts: 102 - 14/04/2010 18:33:22 617602 Link 0 |

Sean Cavanagh may be the all time best in Tyrone and one of the current stars...BUT in the history of the greats he's is not up there. nok02 (USA) - Posts: 534 - 14/04/2010 18:56:19 617625 Link 0 |

MesAmis sounds just about right to me. Cavanagh is a great footballer, but is not a traditional style of midfielder, and even when he played there he seldom won much primary possession, although he always got forward for a few scores. His best role is as a roaming type of forward, which makes full use of his powerful running and score-taking ability and makes him very hard to mark. Micky Harte seems to agree with myself and MesAmis on this since this is where he has played him for the past number of years. Cavanagh's All-Ireland medal and player of the year award for 2008 lend a wee bit of support to this opinion also! doiregael2 (Derry) - Posts: 337 - 14/04/2010 20:35:55 617743 Link 0 |

Seán Cavanagh is an excellent player but he regularly gets cleaned out when he comes up against a midfielder that can actually catch the ball. Coylers Elbow (Meath) - Posts: 1075 - 14/04/2010 21:21:44 617801 Link 0 |
