They are happy to say they are Scottish not Irish. Why do some of you put words in their mouths and try to say Celtic are an Irish club when no scottish Celtic fans say they are Irish ?

Why is every 2nd thread on the non-GAA forum either about Celtic or Man United. Have you nothing better to do?

Welcome back bad.monkey.

Why wouldn't Scottish Celtic fans support the country of their birth over the country of their ancestors (and Ireland isn't even the coutnry of many Celtic fans ancestors)? Who said Celtic are an Irish club? They are a Scottish club with strong Irish connections - founded by an Irishman to help the poor Irish immigrants in Glasgow. How do you know that no Scottish Celtic fans are proud to say they are of Irish descent?

The truth is that Celtic FC milk their tenuous Irish connection for all it's worth. They know the deluded fans will travel over in their thousands to wave the tricolour, sing their rebel songs and spend their money. The signing of the two Keane's were inspired, they would have been rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of all that money pouring in as the barstoolers bought their Celtic jerseys with Keane printed on the back. In a way I pity the Irish Celtic fans, in another way they amuse me. Those who I do feel sorry for are the genuine Scottish Celtic fans, they realise they are a Scottish club in Scotland but yet have to put up with supposed fellow fans giving them a bad name with their sectarian singing and actions. This poll tells us everything we already know, the only people that don't are those that show their Irishness by supporting a British team

'bit rich coming from you'

I have never bought a Celtic jersey, never mind one with Keane on the back so I fail to see your point

I have met several Celtic fans from Glasgow who support Ireland. Obviously the majority would support Scotland.

'you support villa but are here calling irish celtic fans barstool fans'

I support Villa for a number of reasons but being Irish isn't one of them. Celtic fans here seem to support Celtic because they apparently have an Irish history and a large Irish connection. If that's your reason for supporting a club then there's other clubs that are more Irish than Celtic. Believe it or not most of them are actually in Ireland. Clubs over here were founded by Irishmen, have a large Irish connection and the added bonus of actually being in Ireland. So if you support a club simply because they're Irish why not actually support an Irish one. Just a thought

Pomeroy, has it not occured to you that many of us Celtic fans may also support a LoI club.
As I have stated on here previously I attend almost all of Sligo Rovers home games and get to 3 or 4 away games a season as well.

ah would u give it a rest for once Pomeroy. Everyone supports a club for some reason or another. No die hard Celtic supporter supports them cause of their links to Ireland. Theirs a lot of people who like to see Celtic do well cause of the link but these probably wouldn't call themselves supporters. But there's no real point in arguing with u cause u have to be one of the most narrow minded people of all time

I find it hard to comprehend how you can be a true fan of more than one team in the same sport. Sure you can like other teams (in Scotland say I'd have a soft spot for Hibs) but is it really possible to passionately follow more than one football club. Clearly Doctor as you attend a lot of Sligo Rovers games they are your main team so well done for supporting your local club, I wouldn't be entirely sure other Celtic fans would be in the same boat
