i guess about 20 Galway minors with great potential seem to fall
by the way side every year.

One thing's for sure, about 20 Kilkenny minors fell by the wayside this year

jimmy coogan?in fairness played in great kilkenny team but where did he go?
richie murray was nearly as good as joe canning at his age and now is nowhere..
he epitomises where galway hurling goes wrong as he was brought in too early and then discarded
kerril wade is another one, still hurling well with sarsfields but he wont be county standard again imo..i hope he didnt lose the hunger after all he won

the 2 tipp brothers who were excellent minors, mcloughneys? i thought the would have made it.

There not brothers, from Toome and Kilruane. Joey was Tipp inter captain last year and had a great year for Toome before emigrating. Ray played everywhere for his club and is now corner forward, good club hurler.

Ya where did Keril Wade go?

'The Growler' Daly fell out with management never got back into the intercounty scene after that. was the best player on the waterford club scene for many years after that but showed no desire to play intercounty

Kerril wade is the guy Id be most surprised never made it. The most gifted minor Ive ever seen beat KK on his own in an AI minor final id say it was 04' joe canning was on that team but this feelah looked more like the real deal

There was another guy on that Waterford u21 1992 team who was meant to be going to be an outstanding talent, Fives was his name i think, i only saw him play senior county once after that in 2000 vs. Tipp in the munster championship.

Mark Flaherty from Kilenena in Clare. Was one of the main future hopes for Clare in 2008. He hasn't been heard of since.

Kerrill Wade from galway.
A great minor, many years ago, haven't heard a tap from him since.

Kerrill Wade stood out in a few epic minor and under-21 finals for Galway against star-studded Kilkenny sides.

What ever happened to Dan Murphy from cork red headed fella who was centre back (and captain I think) of the cork u21 all Ireland winning team with cusack and the rock, never made it to senior level. Also what happed to noel Morris from tip? What happened to fraggy (kieran maurphy) from cork too? John reddan from Clare was another disappointment. Alan markham seemed to pack it in a bit early too. Always thought Eugene cloonan never fulfilled his potential, thrown in too early I think, what ever happened the younger brother? A natural fullback. Even ger Farragher was discarded too quick by management in my opinion, bucketloads of talent, pure class. One of the classiest players I've ever seen.

Even at club level the drop off is shocking. Was at a club senior game there recently and we had only 3 lads from the last minor team I played on playing senior championship. Now I know it's kildare and there's more emphasis on bogball but I'm sure that goes on in other counties too.

Ya the drop off in my club(outskirts of Limerick city) would be farely bad. I play a bit of junior but only 3 lads from my age group on our first team. The year behind me is even worse. Think only one player still playin and id be in my early 20's. It not emigration although it has takena few but most players just play rugby and soccer as they arent forced to train as much and they can go to a game on a sunday mornin as a sick as a dog and no one cares.
On a side note. How is the club scene in Kildare? Wouyld ye have many dual clubs or is hurling confined to small pockets?

Damien Cleere & Ramie Cahill were probably the 2 best Minor hurlers I ever saw, dont think either played Snr. for Kilkenny. Colm Cassidy, Cha Hand & Tony Spain were all great underage Hurlers, none of them were on the Kilcormac team that got to the Club All Ireland this year.

Hi fishermantom,

The club scene in kildare is strong enough in pockets with the last couple of county championships been won by dual clubs. That said these top teams wouldnt have too many dual players. The strongholds would be in the north of the county, it looks like it could be quite an open championship this year. There are some serious young skillfull players coming up in some of the clubs, which is a good sign. Still though you would lose a few lads to football as you would expect in a football dominated county. Kildare even lost a young fella who moved down to tipp and has played for their u21's this year!
I suppose as well its hard to keep fella's interested if their own particular club isn't successful and they're also into other sports that are. always sad to see young lads fall to the side that could have made it.
