I support Bohemian Football Club and if more "fans" of British teams, including Celtic, support an Irish team then maybe the league here would be a higher standard. Bar stool supporting is no substitute for the real deal.

When did I say that?
And are you refusing to answer my original question?

There's nothing wrong with supporting your local club Joxer, but I just choose not to do it at League of Ireland level. I do support my local junior side and have followed them all over the place in their quest for glory. There's nothing like winning games with lads you went to school with or who you enjoy a few pints with.
I've no problem with you folllowing Bohwemians and good luck to you. But I choose not to follow Limerick FC. Why? many reasons. They changed their name from 'Limerick United' to 'Limerick City' in the 80's, alienating those in county Limerick. They left the Marketsfield and played in Rathbane - parking your car there was not an option and many of my friends were victims of car crime attending their games. And then I worked with a few players who looked down their nose at me for playing at the lowest level. I just loved the game, why look down at me? Also, for many many years in the 90's Fairview Rangers who won the FAI junior Cup 6 times in 7 years, had a better team than Limerick FC. So how was my local LOI team meant to in any way entice me to be a fan?
I'm happy supporting my local junior side and going to Old Trafford. I agree, bar stool support is not the way to go but then again people don't have money these days.

Exactly, the amount of people who choose not to support any Irish teams because they view the league as rubbish is a joke. I've no problem with people supporting foreign teams - far from it, but to knock our own league and our own teams without even attending is a few matches is ridiculous. Unfortunately without an increase in the level of support for our own league it won't be able to improve or develop. Along with this any off the field controversies are just used as easy cannon fodder for the armchair fans to have a go at the league itself.
The amount of Irish people who travel over to England for Premiership matches each week is probably enough to fill Dalymount twice over, never mind the amount who'll sit in a watch a match on tv as opposed to actually going to see their nearest team.
I'm not saying anybody should stop supporting an English or European team, just give the club nearest to you a chance. The more people who attend games, and become involved in the clubs, the more a team will have the chance to improve itself and ultimately help improve the league.
Sickening result last night by the way, thought we did enough to take a lead in the first half and just didn't get a break in the second.

yes, soccer players give about £2,000 each a year to charity. That is like me giving 1 Euro a year. And have a look at the figures from Man United playing in aid of the Omagh tragedy. Just as well it wasn't at a bigger ground.
Patrique - I think you are a troll, you see 'Manchester United' and you go on a wind up mission. I think that's sad, but as a person posting on this messageboard, I will give your post the respect it deserves.
First of all, where are you getting your figures from? How did you arrive at 2,000?
Slayer, could I suggest you read your own post, reproduced above, slowly.
Now you say I see Man United etc.............
Perhaps YOU imagine you see Man United. You have reproduced my post which says "SOCCER players".
Now this may come as a surprise but Man United are NOT the only SOCCER players in the world. So perhaps YOU are the wum.
Not I.
Read my posts, do not be like many United fans with that massive inferiority complex and boulder on the shoulder and see ALL posts as attacks on United.
I said soccer players, I was particularly thinking of John Terry.
But about 90% of them are similar.

How many other clubs were contacted to play in the Omagh tribute game? If Manchester United had not played, would you be mouthing off too? I suspect you would given your constant boring posts about United. So really it is damned if they did, damned if they didn't really.
Do you remember Liverpool sending a side to Cork last season? Was it not a nice gesture? Why did they do it? I think it is because they respect football in ireland given the fact they have picked up players over here over the years. How many requests do the bigger English clubs get to play in Ireland every year? Why did the organisers ask Manchester United and not for example Celtic? Think about it before you reply.
Celtic in Omagh would not have attracted as big a crowd.
Some £130,000 was raised, United charged £100,000 so the fund got £30,000.
Individual players like Andy Cole performed miraclles in visiting people in hospitals and such and deserve great credit, but the club?
Oh yes, they gave a chance to Nottingham Forest's Roy Keane, and Paul McGrath? Is that a wind up? Gave a chance to a man who was one of the THREE world class defenders I have ever seen from these isles. Gave him a chance.
Sure they threw him out, the biggest mistake ever as McGrath was truly a wonderful player. United, nor ANY club, hire Irish people because they like Ireland. They hire players because they think they are good.

The Irish have been brain-washed by the Brits for years, be it sport , music or TV. I've said it on here before...we don't need to depend on them for our entertainment. We have everything here that we need.

Did you not read my post? I do watch Irish football, almost every weekend. Just because it happens to be junior should not take away from the fact that I support my local club. Does watching Irish soccer only matter if it is at League of Ireland level? I don't think so.

redandblackgaa there is nothing to stop you only watching Irish sports, only listening to Irish bands, only buying Irish newspapers and only watching Irish tv channels etc etc, however the fact that most of us choose not to lead our lives that way says it all really. Nobody is been brainwashed by the Brits, we choose to watch English television, support English football clubs, buy English papers, listen to British bands etc etc because we like doing these things, and nobody is forcing us to do any of these things, your argument is quite poor really about us been brainwashed.

if barca are so pure and good why dont they share the millions if not billions they make getting their own tv rights with the rest of the league?? thats the real reason they dont need a sponsor at the minute. most professional footballers contribute a sunstantial amount to charity and dont bum and blow about it. rememeber niall quinn? he tried to hide the fact he was donating 1 million, dont assume that just because barca put it on their shirtd they are the only club doing good, and dont make the mistake of thinking because its on their shirts they are doing something amazin that other clubs arent
