inoyerright, what am I on about you say. Well, to be specific, I asked you 2 questions that you didn't answer, (1) can you tell me what the scoreable free was for, that Tipp were awarded immediately after Healy's second half goal in the 2001 final?, and (2) would you regard Tipp's record in the hurling championship since '71 as despicable and embarrassing? After all, this is a county that won more than a quarter of all the titles played for up to 1971, but has only won 3 of the last 39 since, and blaguarded their way to at least one of those, as you said yourself.

For that point I'd like to mention Padraic 'Dandy' Kelly as one of Galways greats. A fantastic stick man with super ball control and vision to match that of Cooney. All Ireland man of the match in both Club and Inter County All Ireland finals in 1993, was on the losing team in the inter county game V Kilkenny. Not been achieved by any player since.

Yes, Kelly was superb in '93 and his performance against Kilkenny was phenomenal. The treatment he received from Jarlath Cloonan in '94 was a disgrace and it destroyed his confidence, when he had the talent to become one of our all-time greats. Cloonan spent the league trying Kelly in a variety of positions from midfield to corner-forward and then started him at midfield against Offaly in the all-Ireland semi. Offaly had a great midfield pairing at the time and Kelly struggled to make an impact so Cloonan switched him in to corner-forward where he was like a fish out of water. Then to complete the humiliation, he was taken off. After this he never rediscovered the form of 1993, even when selected again in his natural left-half back position.

Your point clearly consolidates one of the points I made about ratifying managers who weren't upto it. I'll never forget that game when Kelly was overwhelmed at midfield by Offaly. Kelly was a superb hurler and produced the goods at club level but after that had no interest in the county setup.

Tipp man's gone awfully quiet with his bashing
