Determining final league placings by head to head record

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Martin Breheny wrote a good article about this in the Independent. The head-to-head rule was passed at congress last year and nobody expressed concern with it at the time. It is only now that certain counties realise that the rule might negatively affect them they are kicking up a fuss. It was the same story when division 4 teams were not allowed in the back-door a couple of years ago. Most of the counties that ended up being affected had actually voted in favour of the rule that they later complained bitterly about.

I've just read Mickey Harte's piece in the Irish News about the changes to the rules that affect promotion or relegation in the NFL. Yes, the GAA should have published the rule changes better publicly but the media - who must been completely focused on the other rule changes (the mark, etc) - have ignored them. Even though Mickey Harte's opinions are very well informed and intelligent, his complaints about the relegation rules seem to be more about the fact that Tyrone could go down to Division 2. As long as the GAA doesn't do a U turn at this year's congress, changing the relegation rules for 2011... That would be change for the sake of change.

They changed the rules after tyrone beating kerry and harte has every right to give out about it.

They didn't change the rules after Tyrone beating Kerry. For the first time I was cheering for Kerry against Tyrone last weekend - it didn't feel right but I knew if Kerry won, Monaghan were effectively safe.

No they didn't - the rule was voted in at last year's congress. Harte might only have found about it after the Kerry match, but that's not the GAA's fault.

Again Dellboy lets himself down.

Of course the rules were not changed after the tyrone/kerry game. Please explain to me how the gaa would have gotten a set of rules changed through congress in a matter of days without anybody noticing?

No No dellboy is right there is a secret group that can change things without any body noticing(except of course Dellboy) and they change things when anybody gains an advantage against kerry

Well this was decided before the start of the league so how could it be fixed?
