4 hat tricks since christmas. 2 in a row in the league (whos the last player to do that in any of th 3 major leagues?), about 16 goals in 9 or 10 matches, most assists in the league, what assists on paper dont show is he often gives the killer ball like the second goal tonight, vision, creativity, greatest dribbler ever, tracking back, gives everything all the time. he will be the greatest of all time, if not already.

anyone who still says rooney or ronaldo is better still doesnt have a clue eg master, mancirish, dell. wake the **** up

Anybody thinking straight would have to agree Messi is head and shoulders above any other footballer at the moment(not literally). I firmly believe that he hasnt far to go to go down as the greatest ever. My problem with the world rankings was that Rooney was placed too low he should have been in the top 5. However Messi is the man, truly exceptional, a good world cup will see him being hailed as the greatest ever I feel.

Its only delusional Man U supporters who even have to cheek to compare these two,Rooney has had a great season credit where credits due but Messi is a different level completely and also unlike Ronaldo when his team were in trouble against Lyon he did nothing,Messi produces the goods when needed, class. If United get past Bayern and one of the French sides and thats a big if they will be played off the park just like they were last year in the final, everyone should just enjoy watching this barca team there might not be another side like them for a long time.

At this point in time, I believe we should all pay homage to 32_4_1 for discovering that little boy kicking a ball in a park in Rosario all those years ago. Despite the insistence of everyone else involved in soccer that he had zero ability, 32 still persevered and made the hugely difficult personal decision to bring that little boy to Barcelona CF for trials, a heart wrenching decision for 32 as he has severe prejudices against anything associated with England. But 32 fought hard to keep him at Barca, at first he said it was assists that was the most important aspect to playing, then he said goals. But that no longer mattered as he blossomed into a fine young man (with the assistance of growth hormones of course)

For it was 32' who the only individual to say Lionel Messi had any ability whatsoever, last night prove him right and the rest of the world wrong.

Thank you Lionel Messi, but more importantly Thank you 32_4_1!

Hang your heads in shame anyone who suggested that Wayne Rooney had a similar, if less spectacular contribution to his own club this season! (...Oh wait, Rooney did)

exactly .. thats been a critisism alot of people have used against him , that he doesnt arrive at the party against english teams , quite a hilarious statement to make , champions league final last term , 4 last night against arsenal , he has been inspirational against chelsea in years gone by too .. truely brilliant player

Last night transported me back in time to 1966, when a 19 year old George destroyed Benfica in the European Cup in Lisbon, the night he became El Beetle.

Now put this in perspective. That Benfica team was a lot better than the current Arsenal team and half of them appeared in the World Cup semi a few months later with Portugal. And the United team George played with was nowhere near the current Barcelona team.

Last nights display by Messi is the best individual display I have seen in the European Cup/CL since that night in Lisbon, surpassing Ronaldo's great night at Old Trafford when he dismantled United with a wonderful hat trick.

This year in England Rooney is competing with Tevez, Drogba, and Fabregas as the best player in the current premiership.

Personally I thought Kaka might be the best all round player in the world, but this season has left no doubt that Messi is now the man.

After Messi there are a number of very talented players, but he is now on his own ahead of the pack.

hes good.. rooneys not as good but that was half an arsenal team. his overall record is still brilliant. his fourth goal was class cause he just seemed annoyed that almunia dared save d his first effort and decided to nutmeg him for the craic. good player. if he gets any better he shouldnt be allowed to play unless he wears ankle weights.
but thats doesnt mean every other player is useless

Rooney goes around kicking people when he doesn't get his way in the first leg of United's 1/4 final, eventually twisting his ankle in doing so, meaning he misses some season-defining games for his club. Messi doesn't have the greatest first leg for Barca but instead comes back, puts in a brilliant performance and scores 4 in the 2nd leg.

This is the type of thing you are up against. If he was kicking people then why was he three yards away from anyone when he landed on it?

As for messi, great performance last night, unquestionably the MOTM, but does that cancel out his poor performance last week? Or does that mean that this performance alone is what he is judged on? If it does then why cant the same apply to players that 32 doesnt like?

As a utd fan i cant believe anyone argued that rooney is better. Yes he's class and on fire at the moment but messi is a class above anything we've seen in our lifetimes.

Exactly speedy. Nocky, your post basically translates as "I don't like Wayne Rooney therefore Messi is a better player". Rhodejim does the same thing. He is a better player but there are enough actual football reasons for that without bringing juvenile whinges into it.

okay, fair enough.thats true. but my underlining problem with rooney is (and i'd say he's raging I have a problem with him!!!) is that he shouldnt have been there. he's the teams striker and he's off getting himself wrecked tired doing work that park should be at. Just to clarify , he is great but he's killing himself
