(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Its the truth boys and you know it. Ask your experts slasher to really look at the facts and they will agree.

Pat you know its true. I'm sure you would love him at the blue camp. Sorry my friend but Old T for life that lad. I think Tores is on his way though?

Would i do a straight swap? No chance

My experts are mainly Man Utd men with a few who support Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton and they have already stated that it is Messi by a mile !!

On current form it has to be rooney. He does far more for the team and is a useful asset in both boxes, messi, although more spectacular, simply doesnt bring as much to the table.

32, an unbiased opinion! And not a hint of irony when you were posting it either

Rooney by miles. It's not even a contest really. A man against a boy.
Messi is lovely to watch but he would never survive in the premiership where defenders and midfielders
actually tackle and compete instead of fixing their hair-bands.

I mean look at Barcelona's defence. Puyol and Pique. And old man and a nice young fella who could
not get his place at United. And they are the Spanish champions!!

Barcelona never would have won the Champions league last year if Platini had not come to Old Trafford
and begged AF to throw the match for "the greater good" of European football.

overall i think messi is still better than rooney, rooney has had bad first halfs in a few games then scored a couple and its been forgotton. that said he's been unplayable at times too. i think judging players who are attacking players is very subjective though, they all give the ball away and make mistakes tryiing to create soenthing so anybody can pick times when they do wrong, i watch 90 mins of most united games so i see when rooney does something wrong, i mainly see high lights of messi so he looks better, he's been guilty of being poor untill he gets a goal in some games too when i have seen a full match. some people would never admit that though. still i thing messi is a better player aslong as he's in the right system he could never play up front alone

I support united and love Rooney but this thread is a bit stupid, Messi far superior. Doesnt mean Rooney aint good tho.

i agree speedy (although not with ur final outcome), we see far more of rooney, so we see more of his bad points also. Messi has a reputation for hanging onto the ball too long when a simpler but better option is on. You dont see that because it is not a highlight. Both great players, but rooney does more for ur team. If he loses he is also adept at getting it back, etc

any alternative to good football eh. first it was ronaldo, now rooney, even thought messi does it time and time again. or maybe its just your hate for anything non-english in football. same can be said for the clubs you choose to support over spanish and italians. you say your against tyrones blanket defence, yet your all in support for chelseas blanket defence v barca

32_4_1, i dont know where you get off half the time on your ABU rants, we seen it when united played milan and again when they drew bayern. everbody knows messi is good but you make him out to be god and anybody who play for united or even in england rubbish! ronaldo is widely acknowledged by people all over the world as one of the best players on the planet (thats why madird paid 80 million for him) and you try to argue he's not. you argue the spanish league is superior yet you havent replied on the real exit thread where i pointed out in my opinion why its not (based on your theory that spanish teams doing better in the eufa cup shows it to be a better league. as i said on another thread, most defences in spain arent good (poor teams in spain play more open football) and barcelona and real madrid and so far ahead of the rest its a joke. because of their dominance players like messi and ronaldo have more chnaces and should be banging in goals. the reason i rate ronaldo above messi and rooney is that he has done it in both leagues and although messi is ahead of him in the spanish league this is ronaldos first season in it. rooney v messi is hard to call because i watch all united games so all im saying is i think messi but i may have the rose coloured glasses on because messi isnt always as brilliant as high lights suggest (hence why he cant carry argintina) messi is playing in a side that many say is the greatest club side ever so he's not short of help. rooney has help too of course but his form in internationals over the last 12- 18 months only stats i can gte handy are 4 goals in 12 for messi 6 in 8 for rooney.. thats a bit of an essay but had to get it off my chest

Look guys we all know Messi is pretty to watch when he has the ball. Rooney also is devastating and unplayable on the ball at times. You have to look at the whole package. Rooney also does the ugly side of the game as well as anyone. What more can you ask. As I have said the complete package, hence the best in the world. I would marginally give Messi the shout going forward but the rest of Rooney's game is in a different league to Messi. I suppose Micheal Essien can't play football. For me the best central midfielder in the world, what does he do lads......... It's not even close Rooney Rooney........

I've gone back to my experts Franz Beckenbauer and Pele by the way Slasher and they agree with me.........

Now don't say I'm biased as i have mentioned Essien who is from Chelsea and i have absolutely no time for them at all.

fair point mancirish, if i had to take one i'd take rooney based on the fact he can play up front alone or in a pair. i think the fact that messi fits barca so well makes him stand out more, i started this thinking messi and my love of united and having a reasonable debate with someone is making me change.. never happened me on HS before. dunno who to pick now.

Good man speedy, i love watching Messi to. But as you say would you swap Rooney for him no chance.

Roy Keane another similar to Essien and what class act Roy was. Why you ask, the drive, the will to win, the determination. You can just imagine having a fight with him you would have to kill him to beat him. Well, I see that in Rooney to. Roy was awesome now put the attacking flair of Rooney with that and you must have the best in the world.

Exactly the opposite 32, good football, and good footballers is what i rate. Attacking is one half of football, defending is the other. The game is still going on when you dont have the ball...
It is not the football tyrone play that I dislike, it is the diving, the trying to get others sent off and general level of cheating they, in my opinion, have harnessed as a tactic in their game. Chelsea werent breaking any rules when they got behind the ball and and closed barca down. If the rules had been applied correctly, they would have won...

Exactly right again speedy, if messi is as good as 32 would like us to believe then why cant he carry argentina like he 'carries' barca? If he is such a great dribbler and 'never loses the ball' then, as long as they have a reasonable defence, all they need to do is get him the ball and they should be winning all around them right? They have defenders playing for some of the top sides in the world, and i would argue they have better defensive options than barca, so what does that leave? The facts indicate that there must be something in the barca team that isnt in the argentina team. Maybe a good central midfielder or two to give the attacking options a platform? Wasnt it their central midfield pairing that were absolutely instrumental in spain winning the european championships? Messi isnt the best player in the world, he's not even the best player in barcelona. One of the most spectacular maybe but not the best
