Eeeeeeeeeehh no brainer, sorry to be sarcastic i just can't believe anybody would even ask such a question. As an avid supporter of Real Madrid i have to say i still think we have a clear winner here but its an insult of a question to ask so i ain't gonna answer it. Good day to you sir.

Rooney is an excellent, but nowhere near as good as the little Argie.

Eoin Goal of United appears to be better than both.

He has won United about 12 VITAL points this year.

You should not have to ask. Messi is without a shadow of a doubt better than rooney. Even Man utd fanboys cant argue with that

Anyone who watches the spannish league and the premier league would know MESSI by a million miles. Rooney does it simple, Messi does it everyway

Its not even close I agree guys, Rooney is at a different level. Messi scores couple of good goals and suddenly he is the man. He's been very quiet this year, very quiet in deed. Did you see Fuller's goal yesterday, it was a great goal also and fair play to the lad he has had a good season. But one goal doesn't make you the best player in the world. Granted last year he was the man and he is coming back into form now that the season is over. Rooney has consistently performed brilliantly all year.

I remember the Giggs goal against Arsenal 99 the year the reds won the treble. Possibly the best goal I've ever seen. United win all and Giggs scores goals like you wouldn't believe and guess what because he's not South American it doesn't count. Believe all the hype you want Messi wouldn't lace The ROO's boots and that's a fact.

Let's do a points scoring exercise;

Rooney Messi
Goal Scoring 10 10
Assists 9 9
Defensive Play 9 6
Dribbling 9 10
Passing 10 10
Work Rate 10 8

Total 57 53

Game over Rooney would be first on my team sheet without a doubt. If I was say City and I could only buy one of the 2 it would have to be Rooney every time he has the whole package guys the whole package.

OK, so it is about goals.

Frank Lampard must be the best.

Far better record, year in, year out, than Rooney.

manc irish. messi has been brilliant and consistent all season. he has also been playing at that standard for his whole career. rooney has had a 2/3 month spell wheres he's played at that standard in 8 years. you say messi has only just started the perform. that should actually apply to rooney. he did nothing for the first half of the season. messi's just raised the bar even higher. to a level no other footballer can go. for the whole season messi is being judged by his own high standards and isnt built up by the british media the way rooney is. rooneys current claim for "the best footballer in the world" is also helped by his current form v previous average season. but messi is just on another level. its a simple as that really. from an unbiased view, your table should be more like this:

Rooney Messi
Goal Scoring 9 10
Assists 5 9
Defensive Play 8 7
Dribbling 8 15 (10 just doesnt do justice. he is so far ahead of anyone in this regard. the greatest dribbler ever)
Passing 7 8
Work Rate 10 9

instead of:

Rooney Messi
Goal Scoring 10 10
Assists 9 9
Defensive Play 9 6
Dribbling 9 10
Passing 10 10
Work Rate 10 8
