Thats a bit rich. What have Kilkenny footballers ever done?

Dont really think Mayo have a chance. Good footballers, nice to watch, just dont have the edge that champs have.

As opposed to what, Mayo hurlers?

Mayo have taken a lot of flak for their repeated all-Ireland final collapses against Kerry, but they have consistently been one of the top teams in the country since 1996. Their win against Dublin in the semi-final a few years ago was one of the best comebacks I've ever seen and I think that on their day they are capable of beating any team except Kerry (there is so much psychological baggage there that the Kingdom have them beaten before the ball is thrown in). If the likes of Tyrone or Cork can eliminate Kerry before Mayo have to play them, then I'd say Mayo would be genuine contenders.

Ulsterman you're falling into the same trap as a couple of Mayo posters who tar all people from one county or counties with the same brush.
Putting aside these couple of plonkers I wouldn't mind seeing them win it for all the genuine supporters. Cannot see it this year but hope they do it in the next couple.

More than likely they'll get to the final and fall short as usual!!

People from outside Mayo seemed to be more obsessed about them winning an All Ireland than Mayo people themselves. The Monaghan poster who talks about Mayo's lack of steel when it comes to finals, let me remind him that the one and only time Monaghan reached an All Ireland final v Kerry, Monaghan scored the grand total of 2 POINTS to Kerry's 3-11. Now that's what you call a LACK OF STEEL!

The difference between Mayo and the teams you mentioned was that they were full of men with substance, no room for premandonnas on those teams. Thats were Mayo are different. I lived in Galway for a couple years way back, I couldnt hack listening to the Mayo folk constantly going on about their domestic game, they really put their players on a pedestal even though they dont deserve to be there.

I would be inclined to shout for anyone but Mayo (or maybe I just dont like Mayo folk) going off the main point a bit!

And who was that managed the Clare footballers in 1992, clarefootball1992?

Its an unfortunate situation Mayo have found themselves in. when people say they'll win the AI, they are wumming, when the say they won't they haven't a clue what they are on about. Lose/Lose scenario. Some of ye need to either ignore it or lighten up and have a laugh at yourselves.

They Have gotten to Christy ring semi finals for the last number of years. Two years ago Carlow beat them with a last minute goal in the semi. We certaily invest a lot more in hurling then Kilkenny do in football. Dual player Keith Higgns would walk on to many a Intercounty panel in hurling.

paddy power has slashed the odds.

i also think they will win.

we dont want to be another donegal or derry . to win one and disappear would be an embarrassment.

i'd say this team has a genuine chance of 3 in a row.

from there i dont know if it will get to their heads or not.

Seen them in Celtic Park. They beat us using very negative tactics, the type that Mayo people often seem to pride themselves on not playing.

Looking at that it makes me think that they have realised that sometimes you have to play ugly to win. But then Im sure the mayo Public will have none of these Ulster tactics as they have often preached about from their high horse on hoganstand.

In all seriousness, it was the most blatent example of balnket defence, i have seen in a long time. Which tells me they have learned something. Saying that though an AI i expect is too far from them, but you never know.

Mayo get a lot of slagging but in fairness to a county that has experienced possibly more than its fair share of heartbreak in semis and finals over the years - and without the consolation in the case of ourselves of the odd win - you have to admire their consistency and optimism. I don't buy into all that 'bottling' nonsense either. Like Dublin and a few others who have been there or there abouts consistently over the past 15 years, they have just not been good enough to beat certain teams - okay one certain team in particular! But that has to do with football and tactics and whatever, not some moral flaw in the Mayo psyche. As for their chances this year, I'd say they will be in the last eight and after that it will depend on who they meet. Can't see anyone beating Cork or Kerry or both of them in the one year and that applies to everyone, not just Mayo. Anyway, I'm sure they will enter a team!

What is that suppose to mean? Why on earth would we laugh at ourselves? Does anybody on here know anything about senior county football? I am begining to wonder, absolute nonsense is what is being talked about Mayo. Once again. NOBODY IN MAYO TALKS AS WE ARE GOING TO WIN AIS, FFS IM 30 AND MY FATHER HASNT SEEN MAYO WIN AN AI. WE ARE A TOP SIDE OVER LAST TWENTY YEARS AND WE ARE DAMN PROUD OF OUR EFFORTS, VERY UNLUCKY IN 96 NOT TO TAKE SAM. NO WAY IS THERE GLOOM THOUGH, WE ARE PRODUCING THE FINEST OF FOOTBALLERS AND WILL MAINTAIN OUR TOP 6/7 STATUS FOR YEARS TO COME AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL ALL COME TOGETHER SOON AND WE CAN TAKE THE SAM MAGUIRE INTO CASTLEBAR ON A NIGHT WE WILL NEVER LET YE FORGET.

Everybody should be able to laugh at themself, not just Mayo people. Cavan have had little success in the last 50 years, but I think its fair to say the Cavan posters don't take themselves too seriously. Off the top of my head, you could only say the same about Whiterbannnas. Either ignore it or join in.
