Best defender in the game

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

yes a few years ago barry owens was the best around. However with injury he has lost his crown. Dont get me wrong he is still a great defender but lets hope we can get him back to his best and lift the whole team/county just as he done when he came on against derry in the ulster champ 2 years ago.

In Ulster over the past 12 months it is hard to look past Karl Lacey, Gerard O'Kane and James Loughrey - I know some people might think me biased with the antrim man, but I have yet to see Lockies play a bad game, and I cannot remember for the life of me a man scoring a point of him in the past 12 month. Lacey and O'Kane speak for themselves though.

Conor Gormley has to be up there as one of the best defenders for the last few years. He seems to maybe be on decline this season but Tyrone have consistently put him on the oppositions dangermen.

Gerard O'Kane without a doubt, our best player last year by far

The best defender for me would be Conor Gormley. If Tyrone want a danger snuffed out then he gets to mark him. Tyrone always have a strong set of defenders and he's been the best of them. Plus he won Tyrone an All-Ireland with that famous block....

For me its definately Karl Lacey, such an outstanding man marker. Its hard to over look the O'Se brothers, Conor Gormley, Davy Harte, Philly Jordan and Graham Canty!

I think Fermanagh are getting a bit carried away with Barry Owens, he was a great player definitely but he is just exceptionally good by Fermanagh standards. There are still better players that have went through Ulster than him.

Ted...i think you have under-rated barry owens. the man is a game changer, he showed this in the championship game he came on and scored a goal against yous, remember that?

595548 Best man marker is Brady of Antrim, who marked Johnson(Cavan) Gooch and Murphy (Donegal) and Stephen O'Neill last year and conceded 2 points from play.

McMenamin may be a very good defender but he would not be in the top 1,000 as a man marker.

Antrim doubled up oN Murphy, they also played an extra man in front of Murphy so the ball could'nt be kicked in. . You forgot that bit patrique

I love watching Anthony Lynch playing, I think his strength and skill combined makes him the perfect man for the full back line. He walks out of the defence like the men tackling him just aren't there. Got to give good old Ricey a mention aswell I suppose, the man gets forward so much you'd swear he had a third lung!

So Antrim not only have the best playmaker but also the best man marker in the game.

My God, Antrim must be the new Kerry!!!!

Antrim have always had better players than Kerry. The difference is our lads play for clubs and are actively discouraged from playing for the county.

Tomas O Se or Karl Lacey.

Good to see Patrique thinks all the best players come from Antrim yet again! ;-)

Alas not.

You see Gaelic football is 15 a side, and Antrim have two of the best. That leaves 13 others.

13 is an unlucky number in Antrim
