To be fair to Rte the Sunday sport show is a joke no matter what county your from you would be doing week to see highlight on your teams match if your very lucky they might call out the scores or show a look at the tables unless of course you happen to be in div 3 or 4 of the football,in which case you just dont exist it seems haha.

In fairness not many people want to watch leitrim, roscommon, tipperary, etc playing and telivision is a business so it only makes sense to put on what the public want.

It is most insulting on Sunday evenings when RTE do not give the results from the National football and hurling leagues from ALL the divisions. I feel that this is poor TV and shows no respect for the GAA supporters around the country who rely on their NEWS for the actual news. The tendency to merely show one or two scores from the game of the day is not what the true supporter is interested in.

This is where our association should step in and demand that the full results are shown. Time and time again up and down the country when it comes to county final time, club supporters look forward to hearing and seeing their club name on the screen and the announcer mentioning the result. Sadly, this has been sacrificed very often to show... yes... and i make no apology for saying it... some soccer story about some half known and overpaid player from some far flung country who has transferred to an English club. That is RTE!

The other stations... TV3 has no allegiance what so ever and GAA is usually an after thought.

In exacting a contract with these stations for live game coverage, clauses must be written in to ensure that at least we get fair and decent coverage for our games.

Another example of RTE'S commitment is the farce that is Aertel where GAA is being shunted around to different page numbers 241 to 400 and now 203 and of course the info is frequently incorrect. Mayo v Monaghan in Portlaoise??? Last week Galway v Monaghan in Salthill and then in Tuam when they wern't even playing each other. A number of the Div 3 and 4 games have been given neutral venues???? Offally v Antrim in Drogheda?? and they call themselves the national; broadcaster

Imagine RTE don't read out results from div 3 and 4 just say in one sentence who won! There are only 13 scores to read out in total.

What a load of ****** !
Look, lads, RTE are not obliged to show GAA over anything and to say they are means your still in the middle ages!! Come out of the fog, stop wearing Macs, flares and listening to Val Doonican!

RTE are in the ratings business....and a top tier game is of WAY more interest to the general public than a lower division team. There is a reason those teams are lower division lads....cos they are poor!

Now if you REALLY want to attract more fans to GAA then tell me this. Do you think a floating sports fan is more likely to be won over be seeing Tipp V KK or Dublin V Kerry or seeing Carlow V Wexford or Roscommon V Fermanagh.........??

Seriously........

And to say there is a Rugby Bias in Montrose and that only a few counties follow Rugby......laughable! Look at the amount of people going to Magners league games every second weekend, or Henieken Cup Games, or Internationals. And look at the amount of people wearing replica rugby tops as opposed to GAA tops on a Saturday in your local town...
Right now Rugby is the No 1 Show in Ireland and while it is, RTE are dead right to capitalise on it.

And anyone saying LOI gets more coverage than GAA is just simply delusional!

Lads be realistic, RTE is all about ratings and advertisements. They want to put stuff on TV that attracts the biggest audience.
How many people do you think a league game between Wexford and Carlow in hurling would attract.
Now how many would a league game between Tip and Kilkenny or Dublin and Cork attract.

Very surprised at Liams outburst as I have find his contributions to be consistantly reasonable.
However Re LOI and GAA and delusional there are 2 programmes to my knowledge on LOI on a match on Fri televised in its entirity and a highlights prog earlier in the week. GAA league matches some of whom have already attracted gates of over 20,000 are not covered and there is a highlights prog on Sunday of 1hour for both hurling and football which consists of redubbing matches already covered by TG4. RTE dont send cameras to any GAA matches. Re soccer there is also coverage of the Champions league The premiership and international matches so I cant see how you can call us delusional the facts are quiet clear.
Secondly re Rugby bias in RTE Dublin4. RTE are clearly PROMOTING rugby every rugby announcement is accompanied by a few tries. Even if its something like the scottish team have landed in dublin airport or Munster has appionted a new manager. Why do you think they do this?
Gaa announcements such as the recent appointment of your new dublin captain D Henry was accompanied with some footage of him spitting. Why do you think that choice of footage was made? It would be much easier would it not to have shown him involved in some high profile match.

We are nearing the end of March. Ireland has just had a mediocre 6 nations. Saturday sport today was largely devoted to rugby with live coverage of the Leinster v Connaught match. plus frequent updates on rugby all ireland league matches.
Both commentators supported the removal of the drink ban and waxed lyrical on the T-shirts being sold in Limerick commemorating drinking being allowed on Good Fri.
Soccer also covered frequent Premiership updates which in fairness is understandable.
However just 15 min devoted to GAA no previews of the hurling/football matches just the usual negative stuff trouble in Limerick hurling and payment of managers clearly a case in RTE of "GAA = bad Rugby = good"

At a minimum I would like RTE to give GAA matches the same treatment they afford to rugby. Not too much to ask dont you think!!! RTE tv dont cover any GAA matches hurling or football just redubbing the TG4 coverage.

While working abroad for the last few years I found the BBC NI website the best outlet for getting live scores in games, RTE website very slow to update and Aertel too, it'snot too much to ask for live scores to be updated is it?

Agree with you breifneabroad. I thought the BBC'S coverage of the Ulster championship was much superior to RTE i.e camera work etc.
They also unlike RTE ggive some coverage to schools gaa. How can you explain it other than sheer bias that RTE chose to ignore any mention at all of Tyrone v Kerry Dublin v Galway and Derry v Cork which was taking place later that evening or the Mayo v Monaghan match today.
And the sports reporters at tv news time find it beneath them to read out the scores or to divide the results by division or show the league tables. All you get is "there were wins for carlow leitrim westmeath"

tonight RTE read out the scores from Div 1 and 2 and discussed the permutations re who would quality and who would go down. Division 3 and 4 clattered through a few scores and left the questions re up and downs to the imagination.

I agree that people in general are more interested in the Div 1 games but RTE are a national Broadcaster and we pay them a licence fee which is not proportional to the success of your county you have to stump up the full amount.

BBC are better for Ulster Counties incl Cavan Mon and Donegal they even have a great interactive Coaching section.

In fairness, RTE coverage of the Championship is very good. I agree that the lack of coverage of the league is frustrating but it doesnt have the same interest to most people as the Championship.

As for the comments from Liam from Walkinstown about more rugby & soccer jersies than GAA, not up here. Maybe that sums up the average Dub fan, goes with whatever sport is in vogue!
