The greatest team of players you have watched.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Was brought to my first senior intercounty match in Ennis is 1993 versus Limerick. Since then, I have borne witness to some magnificent players. What is the best amalgamation of players that you have witnessed playing live at the pinnacle of their careers? You are of course allowed to slot in players into alternative positions.

2 tip, 2 cork, 2 gal, 2 KK, 2 Offaly, 3 Clare(I still think the clare team in the 90s was the best county side I've ever seen!), 2 limerick. Even spread!!
I think I might be biased to Munster hurling. I attended my first AI in 1993, Gal v KK. These are, I think, the best I have had the privelege to see in action.
Others that nearly made it: Wexford: Fenlon and storey. Offaly: Whelehan. KK: So many of them over the last ten years.. Gal: Cooney, Cloonan, hardiman.
Clare: Baker, frank lohan, davy fitz. Waterford: the other eoin kelly, paul flynn, mullane, ken mc grath. Limerick: Kirby. Tip: I could see noel mc grath being on this in a few years. Tommy dunne was some player.
Rigney from Laois was a class act.

I'm sure I'm missing a few...

Just looking at the players that weren't on that starting 15 was shocking, two in particular, Brian Dooher and Peter Canavan.. this is my list of the last decade's dream team starting from 2000..

1.)Stephen Cluxton
2.)Marc O'Se
3.)Darren Fay
4.)Ryan McMenamin
5.)Tomas O'Se
6.)Seamus Moynihan
7.)Declan Meehan
8.)Dara O'Se
9.)Sean Cavanagh
10.)Brian Dooher
11.)Ciaran McDonald
12.)Paul Galvin
13.)Colm Cooper
14.)Padraig Joyce
15.)Peter Canavan

Without doubt THE BEST starting 15 of the last decade.. some I've left out but would be on that panel, Declan O'Sullivan, Ciaran Whelan, Alan Brogan, Ciaran Donaghy, Philip Jordan, Steven McDonald, Oisin McConville etc.

RoyalClass: i did say that my list only included players that i have seen live rather than on TV or DVD. Therefore, i have never seen Fay, Moynihan, Declan Meehan, Canavan or McConville live and in the flesh so to speak. My team is based on the matches that i have seen.

Just a quick point Mesamis:
You said you want to put players in their actual positons-what do you think was moynihan's best position? For me it was centre back (or possibly wing back). He could really influence a game from there. As a full back i felt he was really good but he was more of a stop gap solution as kerry really struggled in that position in the early 00's. I don't feel it was his natural position to be honest an he played his best football in the half line.

Any thoughts?

This is coming from a Kilkenny man who watched a fair bit of Football but have to admit this was more my personal favouties to watch. I'm sure I've missed a lot of players esp North and west but I always loved Kerry and Meath growing up.
