Not last year it wasn't!!!

I'm not writing off canning i still said i'd have him before henry because he has the potential to be the greatest ever but he's still a bit to go to surpass henry.... some of your fellow poster are writing off canning as a "manufactured hurler" what do you make of that?

Joe Canning and Henry Shefflin are the best modern day hurlers by a country mile and to compare both is unfair to either player!!

Shefflin has won so much because of the quality of players kilkenny have around him and on any given day kilkenny can produce man of the match displays from any 1 of their forwards so that takes any criticism away from henry if he is not scoring freely from play on any given sunday....

...But the reality in Galway is the opposite,if Joe Canning is not getting enough ball from play into him etc..the unfortunate reality is that Galway struggle in big games.(I hope I am wrong this year).

I would be scare to think of what they would be like if they both played for the same Club and County!!

Joe is a fantastic player. Full stop. Cannot and should not compare him with Henry. Time to do that in 10 years time. For the moment... let us enjoy all that is Joe. A magnificent hurler. Has it all. Worth a long drive to just watch him play.

Answer this question..

If u had to travel 100 miles to see him play...which one would u pick???

For me it is Canning hands down, and no its not because im a Galway man, and im a massive fan of Henry but baby Joe can do things with a sliothar that no other player can.

Only for Canning galway would be in a bit of trouble, his shoulders must be sore carrying the team through all those matches.

There is no doubt about it. At 21, Joe Canning has produced more brilliant hurling than any player ever at that age. The rest of the comparisons will have to wait for another 10 years.

Yes, JC is awesome. At 21, already, he is a better hurler than the brilliant Henry. It's not fair to use 'titles won' to compare the two. Teams win titles, not individuals.

Saying that Henry is better than JC because he's won more, is like saying every KK player is better than every other hurler in Ireland and that's not right. There are a good few out there that would get in the current KK team.

Milici,as a KK man I will agree with you that you cant compare hurlers on the basis of what they have won,but to say that Joe is better than Henry might be pushing it a bit,Joe is great hurler and as I said before on another post he comes across as a true sportsman and gentleman,I dont think we should be comparing them at all, they are 2 great men, lets just enjoy watching them play and all the other great players from all our hurling counties who are giving all their supporters great pleasure.

Couldn't agree more with the orignal poster. But not only is he a class act on the field he is a model of good behaviour off it. I have seen him waiting at the end of a match signing hurls for youngsters without a hint of complaint.

Hes a fantastic hurler but this nonsense that he is a better hurler than Henry can wait for 10 years or so. Joe is great but Henry is still King (for the time being)

"Joe Canning and Henry Shefflin are the best modern day hurlers by a country mile"

To whoever stated this, then Tommy Walsh must be the best modern day hurler by a country marathon!

Mooncat has the story right. Enjoy the two of them. Great men both. Now can we please stop this ridiculous comparison.
