Joe Canning is awesome

Joe Canning is just awesome in my opinion :) Some great scores today.
Only worry is it would be a pity for such a great player to never win an All Ireland Senior Medal.. with the county

I'm 25 and he's best player I have ever seen play and do not expect to see another like him. Seen Lohan, Jamesie, DJ, Shefflin, Carey, Eoin Kelly x 2, Ken McGrath, Whelehan to name only some of my heroes but the sense of excitement that surges through the crowd when he is in possession is incredible.

Joe had a good game yesterday but I have to say I think he is very over-rated as a player. He is a great free taker and took his chances yesterday but for me he has a lot to do to be even close to Henry Shefflin.TJ Reid is gonig to be some player this year for Kilkenny.

canning did far far more than shefflin yesterday. he carried portumna and was just fantastic. what a player. in ten years time he will be more of a legend than shefflin.

"Kingdomfan" Joe Canning overrated?? I dont agree with that at all, he is only twenty one and he has already been magical in big games, I was sitting in the middle of the Ballyhale fans yesterday and they were all in awe of him saying what a brilliant hurler he is and they should know having been watching Sheflin for his whole career. Every time the ball game near him there was danger. The matter of how he and Henry Shefflin compare is one that could be more accurately assessed when Canning has ten years hurling under his belt to compare against Henrys ten years but I think it is safe to say that Canning is an absolutely brilliant hurler and it apears very likely that this stage that he will go on to be one of the best hurlers of all time

You'll find he did although he did not get 1 in 2001

And just to be clear whilst I think henry is the best hurler I have ever seen and one of the greats, Joe Canning is unreal. What a hurler. Maybe at the end of his career we will look at Joe as the best hurler ever but at the moment he's not ahead of Henry.

When comparing Joe to Henry you have to remember JC is still U21. Of course he does not have the honours HS has and never will due to county standards but in my opinion he has the potential to be the best hurler ever.

hurling can count itself extreamely lucky it has lads like joe canning and henry sheflin playing it...hurling is the best game in the world and i dont like comparing our hurlers to millionaires from other sports..but canning has that special grace that makes everyone takes notice, when he gets the ball the crowd tense in expectation, the commentators go quiet awaiting an appropiate eulogy to follow.and he duly delivers on most occasions..ill never forget the time galway played cork a couple of years back in the quarter final i think it was and the commentators were saying that going up against the rock was a step to far to soon...first ball, he catches over two challenges and buries it past donal og. he'll never win as much as sheff but surely will challenge his greatness and probably surpass it.

He is a brilliant hurler. He did more than Shefflin yesterday and considering he's still only 21 i'd say he'll definitely go on to be one of the best hurlers of all time, if not the best. He'll never catch up on Shefflin's amount of All Ireland titles but give him a few more years and he'll be just as good as him I think.

I agree.. He's only young yet and noone was calling Henry the King when he was 21. What annoyed me yesterday was how Portumna relyed so heavily on Joe, when he took that free and the goalie saved but then dropped it, there was no Portumna players in on top of him, they all just assumed Canning would hit the back of the net..
