Are Meath living on past glory

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

granted that its not all meath fans who believe that but on numerous occasions you get the few narrow minded fans on this who believe if the ref had of added the right injury time meath would of won the game , that talk annoys me because their is no proof , momentum with meath of not a mistake could have been made in the minute which resulted in dublin going up the other end and scoring a goal and hey presto its game over by a bigger margain , you cant change what happened and mayo fans have a reputation for not letting things drop , the past is the past thats all im saying and nothing can be changed now , no use fighting and argueing over it , mayo arent good enough to win sam this year either , neither are meath , and imho neither are dublin ..

laytown legend where did you go to secondry school and when ?

In a sense they are living on past as glories as do Down in my opinion. This is not nessacarily a bad thing. When they get into playoff situations the have a self belief or arrogance on the pitch because so many Meath or Down teams in the past have been there before; The problems lie with other teams "the weaker counties" when in similar situations lack the self belief or tradition to push forward and believe the have the right to win games. Are this current Meath team good? No. Will they get further than teams that a have better footballers than them? Quite possibly.

Wayno, loyal is one if these Meath supporters that believes if the ref didn't blow it up early that they would have won. Can't find the post but those were more or less his words.

To all the Meath fans upset by your defeat last weekend take heart with your comrades from Mayo, we suffered an eqaul, if not more embaressing defeat last year in the All Ireland quarter final against a worse team! It will take a few months but the pain will heal.

How exactly does one live on past glories?

Is it like the dole?

Meath will be there come the business end of the season i've no doubt bout that. i wouldn't worry about poor performances in the league. In my opinion we have the best group of forwards in the country. Watch out for shane orourke and brian sheridan in this years championship.

Two semi-finals in three years suggests they are not playing that bad. They either seem to be very poor or very good; either crashing out of the Champo early or making to the last four. I would reckon they would just about make it into a top ten of the best counties at the mo.

Here Waynol you're some boy - I dont live too far from Laytown unfortunately!

Sure some of you blow-ins don't know yourselves moving to the countryside and out of over-populated suburbia. But seen as you're still in school I'll excuse you're immaturity and hope you enjoy your new area and all the comforts that it brings.

meath are dorment at the moment but they will come again and win all irelands, they did beat us last year and are capable on their day to upset anyone. i would much rather mayo go into decline and rise to win all irelands every decade r so instead of this always there or there abouts but never quite getting there

Says alot for Mayo football so.. I can understand the malice and jealousy thats been building since 1996 and last year just took it to a new level.. a 50 year drought says it all.. that Mayo are indeed USELESS and never had the bottle to win anything.. Meath might be playing the worst football for a long time but I can guarantee you they'll always be nearer to a Sam Maguire than any Mayo team.. maybe when ye's grow a pair something might happen..

Thats it let it out, its all part of the process of moving on. We we lost last year to a joke of a team (Not naming any names) we were a bit bitter also. Unfortunately such is life that these things happen you lose to a worse team. By the way i loved the singing and chanting from the Meath fans on hill 16 last year. Such a fine English accent too, budding actors in Meath.

Bickering isnt going to get you or Mayo anywhere.. how about cut out the whinging and move on.. seems to be the biggest problem with Mayo people these days..

P.S.. dont judge a few cockey-wannabes on the hill on the whole county of Meath..

Beating Mayo would not be said a great achievment

Paddyogall, better teams win matches - that old chestnut has been bouncing around since 96 when Mayo also claimed to be the "better team" but like last year they simply could not put away a Meath team when they were in a dominant position to do so, irregardless of lucky breaks or decisions. And castlemaine Im sure you weren't thinking that beating Mayo wasn't a great achievement in 2004 or 2006, choose your comments carefully sir there is a distinct dislike of all things Meath in your tone.

I think Meath are living on past glories. Its very difficult to live off future glories that havn't happened yet.
