Patrique, Nah I cant agree with your definition of socialism. To me socialism is a system where the means of production i.e Land, Labour and Capital are owned by the people as a whole i.e in the form of the state. This eliminates private ownership which means wealth is distributed fairly and workers are not exploited. You see socialists usually view capitalism as a system which exploits workers unfairly, due to the fact that capital is in the hands of a few. So socialists, to combat this issue, advocate collective ownership. This is socialism in its purest form. BUT, nowadays beacuse we all know its a joke of a system that wastes so much resources, socialist parties have concluded that there is no way to implement pure socialism so many have become social democrats and are willing to accomodate capitalism in a watered down sort of way, and at the same time combining it with socialism to form, what we call a mixed economy i.e Sweden.

So € 20 million is going to be spent on counteracting what the advertising Alcohol promotes.
Why not just ban all Alcohol advertisements instead?

That is communism. From the word "commune".
The other thing I described, socialism, derives from society.
All political theorists recognise Sweden as a socialist country, which is why it is never mentioned in the media.

By the way Scruffy, you may not have noticed this, but living in the ROI you should have, but CAPITALISM collapsed a few years ago, and is now totally discredited as a system.

Waste of money. Someone said that it won't help the current adults but it could help the next generation? Not a chance. People are going to follow the culture not an ad campaigne.

But it was an ad campaign that created the binge drinking culture.

I think all the information about the harm bingedrinking can cause we get in school would make a lot more difference than an ad campaigne to be honest. And that doesn't even stop people from drinking.

Patrique, I think free market capitalism collapsed after the first world war in Europe and it died with Rockefeller in the USA. But there is more than one form of capitalism. It will outlast socialism as a favoured economic system. As your former Prime minister said "the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples money".....M Thatcher.

You're making the assumption that Thatcher was ever right, she wasn't. Capitalism isn't any more reliable or stable than socialism, the only difference between the two is that capitalism gets bailed out by the state. Socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor!
"Not a nut or bolt shall reach Chile under Allende. Once Allende comes to power we shall do all within our power to condemn Chile and all Chileans to utmost deprivation and poverty." - Edward M. Korry, U.S. Ambassador to Chile, upon hearing of Allende's election.

I wouldn't be too optimistic either, but the same types of campaigns worked on smoking and heart disease, so they should have some effect. £20m will go nowhere in the long-run if nothing's done, costs the NHS £1m an hour at the mo to treat diabetes, most of which is caused by people not eating properly.

Of course it will. The capitalists will buy enough arms and bombs to kill all opponents.
Look at the end of the 1960s in France, Czech, N.Ireland, US of A and elsewhere, with the emergence of a caring society.
Crushed.
And just for the record, compared to EVERY ROI taoiseach, Mrs Thatcher would appear to be a socialist.
