Is Kaka starting to show signs of burnout? By the shape of his performance last night you would thinkso.
But then if you were carrying the Real Madrid team all year, you would be feelin the effects too!

cant get through the frist knockout stage in 6 years but still top of the league in spain.. says it all

Ye needa tell patrique that aswell

What?

EVERYONE knows the big 4 in England have more money thatn anyone else so will do well in the CL.

But the other 16 are useless. even one of those 4 just lost to the mighty Lille tonight, the other English team lost to Juve.

Everton, the 5th best team over the last few years got humiliated by Benfica and stuffed by Sporting.

That is why the premiership is so week.

Take away the top 3 now.....what is left? Stoke?

Absolute deluded gibberish. Not even the slightest hint of logic, balance and partiality.

Patrique makes a good point for once. When's the last time an English team made an impression in the UEFA Cup/Europa League which is the best way of judging teams outside the top 4. Boro got hammered a few years ago, Liverpool won it 10 years or so ago. That's two English teams that made the final in the last 10 years. This is comparable to the SPL's efforts in it. Compare it to Spanish teams in the same period. 5 finalists and 3 winners. You also need to look at the number of teams that have made the Champions League out of each country. For England it has been the same four year in year out for as long as I can remember. Everton did gatecrash it but then got knocked out of the Qualifying by, you guessed it, a Spanish team. In recent years Barca, Real, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Villarreal and Deportivo have all qualified for the Champions League and made an impression in it. So while the top 2 or 3 in England are amongst the best in the World the rest of the Premiership is of a much lower quality than La Liga

I'm not even gonna try and discuss this as most people who have such extreme dislike of the premiership are not the listening type.

You can make good arguments for each league being the best. Its a close run thing, but the likes of Patrique, 32_4_ and the rest will not even entertain the idea that the premiership is decent, so discussing the idea is an exercise in futility.

No room for closed minds in debate.

What have English teams outside of the top 4 done of note in Europe? When have they even qualified for the Champions League even?

The same as a lot of the Spanish teams. I'm not taking sides in this discussion, It doesn't bother me that much which is the best league. What bothers me is mis-representing things and people coming to silly conclusions based on nothing.

I love watching the Premiership but as a whole La Liga is certainly the better of the two. Recent years have shown this, outside a small number of teams the Premiership is actually really lacking in quality

I don't think the premiership is really lacking in quality, but I do think La liga probably shades it for standards. Just look at Fulham, 2 years ago they needed to win to stay up on the last day of the seaon and now they are are playing Juventus in the Uefa cup, having knocked out last years winners.

In Patrique and 32's world they like misrepresenting things by comparing Villareal to Stoke. They list off all the teams from 3-10 in la liga and compare them to the bottom 6/7 of the premiership. They don't need to as they probably have a winning argument but they're not happy with that. They want people to think the premiership is pure rubbish down to some curious bitterness. In 32's case its down to pure hatred of the English, except English musicians, obviously. Patrique, i think his bitterness is down to some confused logic that by constantly rubbishing the league and talking about money as if it doesn't exist in other countries, somehow makes his favourite clubs lack of success more understandable.

i've explained this to you before, so I'm not wasting my time doing it again as typically you refused to take it on board. Just compare like with like and you'll find it's a lot closer than you think.

Sorry everyone.

Everton BEAT Benfica 5-0 and then knocked out Sporting. That wasn't really Sportiing who drew with Athletico Madrid yesterday, it was Everton. (I know, but Breffni's situation could be delicate. Anything could tip him over the edge)

hows it a lot closer bref. take out leeds (who were a "big" team at the time) and what are you left with. everton who got thrashed by villareal when they qualified for the champions league qualifiers, and borough, who got thrashed in the uefa cup final.

villareals even smaller than just about every team in the premiership, which makes their achievments even more impressive

and espanyol should also be added to that earlier list

the evrtin arguement is a load of rubbish, they have only just got some great players back from injury and were struggling in the premiership without them never mind europe.
alot of the spanish teams your talking about had one or two good years then had to sell their players because they spent too much. also the 2nd and 3rd place teams in spain end up in the europa league alot of the time after coming 3rd in champions league groups, english teams dont get knocked out till later in the competition so dont get into the b competition

Delighted for Real. Money can buy you the best players in the world but cannot achive the same level of percise and critical gameplay, style and skill from developing youth and blending it with experienced talent players. Have to admire Barcelona for that. Thats why most impartial people prefer Barca. They promote the beautful aspects of the game unlike Real, sack the manager then give the new manager ridulious transfer funding. Thank you Lyon for making my week :)
