Heard this game has been switched to Cooraclare at 7.30 - Gaelic grounds frozen all day yeaterday and likely to be same again today. Can anyone confirm this?.

No other grounds with lights & suitable spectator facilities in all of Limerick so we have to lose home advantage.

The County Board agreeing to let the game be brought to Cooraclare is basically handing Clare the game. Coorclare is deep in football territory in West Clare and if our lads get through this then anything is possible. The only other pitches with adequate lighting facilities in Limerick would be Knocklong and Staker Wallace. Both are top notch pitches but there is no work done around either ground to facilitate spectators as of yet. Why didnt the County Board push for the game to be played in Shannon where there are a few pitches with excellent facilities. Also as I've noticed its quite a nice day outside so I'm sure the Gaelic Grounds will be well thawed out by 7.30. They must have under soil heating in Cooraclare if they seem so confident that the game can go ahead there and not the Gaelic Grounds. Angry out at present!!! Best of luck to our lads anyways. They have a good team this year so if they can get through this tricky obstacle who know's how far they'll go.

As you get nearer the coast the chances of a thaw improve (or less frost for starters), plus its probably the shade off the Mackey stand that is the main problem at GG. For a county with limited provincial success there are a surprising number of pitches that could accomodate it in West Clare. Lights and a stand also in KIB (though they are obviously busy), Kilrush has lights, Miltown has an all weather type pitch (like Foynes) & think they have started a stand, Doonbeg have a stand but not sure re lights, Kilmihil has a stand.

The likes of Askeaton should have lights, already have parking, a stand, fairly easy to get to/find and a tradition of holding inter-co games. Overall there should be a push to get floodlighting into club pitches, even from a training point of view. This craic of 2 floodlights and away you go is downright dangerous!

excellent display by the 21s tonite to go 7 points down and still come away with the win is exceptional. heard that eoin o connor of st marys /sean finns had an excellent game kicking 4 points in the second half .who else played well ?

Was at the game last night. Great win for Limerick.

If I was Maurice Horan though, I'd be very worried about some areas.

Positives:
James Kelly- tenacious at centre forward, really drove the team, rarely lost a ball
Eoin O'Connor- Played well throughout, but was outstanding in the second half, kick 4 fantastic point, my man of the match.
Resilience in the 2nd half to keep plugging away with the goal being a wonderful team move.

Negatives:

First half- Only 2 points scored
Midfield- Played 2nd fiddle to the Clare boys for most of the game. So dreadful handling, poor decision making
Ball Skill- Limerick picked the ball of the ground 4 times during the match amongst other basic errors.

Overall, will have to improve to beat Tipp

Just to add that Cooraclare is a excellent facility, even though you have to go down and up the old bog road to get there.

What were the county board thinking treating football this way? If this was hurling, there is no way we would concede venue. The temperature is Cooraclare last night was 0 degrees and by the time one got back to limerick it was 8 degrees, the GG's would have been fine.

I hope that this wasn't done so that limerick are able to change a hurling fixture from clare to Limerick later on in the year. We lost a lot of revenue last night.

Good win last night but was long drive down to cooraclare. Nice set up they have but surley the GG could have been ok by 7.30pm last night.
with more frost all this week .That game against waterford on sat night will have to be moved as well.

Midfield i taught did ok last night they took over in the second half and when the ran straight at the clare defence this is where they got the space and time to get the scores.
more work to be done for the game against tipp on the 18th but not one they could not win.

John Riordan played very well and led like every good capt should do and was giving great encouragment to the other lads around him.
Eoin Joy at cb did his Job very well and scored a great pt. He has very good ball handling skills and his size when running at the clare defence caused alot of problems.

Ok where to start.
Firstly, well done to management and team on the victory last nite. getting over dat 1st hurdle has been a burden over the past few years. This is all the more so having been well beaten in Cooraclare last year and having to give up home advantage this time round. The radio announced that it was due to over night frost. bull... the field under the stand had been frozen with 2-3 days yet our great committee and secretary didn't tell the management team of this. it was only luck that M Horan found out. otherwise it would have been Wed mornin. Simply not good enough with players travelling long distances and pre match routine greatly affected. If it was hurling im sure the issue would have been rectified. That is why the news and weather is broadcast and gives reasonably accurate predictions. Once again county board showing their loyalties to hurling given after all thats happened this year.
Next the big issue over gear. They hardly wanted to part with it. yet it probably cost as much to have to get a bus to the arse end of Clare for the game. It was a joke to see the jerseys also. Hand me downs/2nd hand with 125th anniversary on them. Ah i think that was last years championship. Then listening into the warm up a county board official (not any part of 21 mgt was roaring to mind the footballs with players on shooting practice- 2 went over the wall early on in the warm up and the man in question was raging- sure they shouldnt have bothered with shootin practice at all if that what he wanted- hunger again). Anyhow enough of county board flaws.

To the game
Great result considering pre match mix up and adjustments.
Great comeback when they seemed dead and buried.

1. Started pretty well seemed to find space were in total control and 2 points to the good.
2. Suddenly for some strange reason they all dropped back bar 1 or 2 and invited mass pressure on the defense who were been ran ragged.
3.Joyce Power didnt seem to know where to position himself. When he did eventually got to the edge of the square result. Long accurate delivery, knocked it down got the return and buried it.
4. Breaks- didnt win one id say especially with everything so crowded. Alot of loose ball Clare cleaned up.
5. Didnt use space enough crowded it out and worked the ball round half back/midfield too much. This allowed Clare funnel back and crowd out.
6. When ran at Clare they reeped the rewards wit good scores from O Connor and a nice Joyce- Power point. Joy came up from c back to knock over a point. He had a lot of defending to do all nite with his man pretty dangerous.
6. Ward played well enough esp 2nd half given that he was a late replacement for the injured Ian Ryan (hopefully will be back next Thur- be major addition). One moment to highlight the pitch was on the far side of the stand in the corner he was comin out for a ball which just bound off a divet straight up into his hands. Did the pitch seem uneven on the surface. Granted its a fine facility and considering the winter were after havin. G grounds meant to be a major ground in the country.

Re: Two_hands
I was just talking about some injury that he got a few weeks back, from what I heard he got a fairly bad fall off of sum scaffolding and done some damage to his knee, dont seem to be slowing him down though, just hope that he wont make it worse by playing too much too soon after the fall, might be better off giving it a rest, but im sure he knows best himself
