maurice fitz's point. just because it wasnt a fluke, he could score them al day. mulligans goal was a fluke.

Two dummies and a superb finish was a fluke? Slide on son, you don't know what you're on about

ciaran mcdonald scored against castlebar a few years ago in the league from inside his own half into a head-wind. The most spectacular score i ve ever seen. It looked about 5 yards wide when it left his boot but it curled beautifully over the bar with a bit to spare

a close second would be conor mortimer's free against galway in 2006 connacht final. Under extreme pressure, the mort stepped up to the plate, took one look at the posts and nonchanantly stroked the ball between the posts. Pure class

mulligan couldnt do that every day is my point. and especially not if the likes of marc o se was marking him, he wouldnt get that much space from kerry or i bet even from mcmenamin in training.

Colin Corkery in Croke Park against Mayo in 2002! Playing onto the Hill full of Dubs keering at him he was out on the Cusack Stand side of the field about 20 yards out and hit a beauty over the bar! Awesome!

A fluke is something that wasn't intended. Mugsy probably won't do it again but not many would have the presence of mind to even try something like that, even fewer would have the skill to carry it off

PomeroyPlunkett first i loved that goal mugsy scored i put my fist through the ceiling of a pub in galway when it happened but to call it the best well id take issue with that and here is why:

mugsy foulded the ball four seperate times before scoring- that is the only reason its famous cause it shouldnt have being allowed on 4 different levels, he fouled the ball twice as in changing hands - not allowed, and he first took 8 steps and then 9 - i loved it because who it was against but it can never be considered the best as it shouldnt have stood on so many levels- it definately would top of the novelty lists though, even if he didnt foul the ball on any of the 4 ocassions it still isnt within an asses roar of eamon o haras goal last year that is probably the best goal ever witnessed on this island it had everything pace power etc etc- mugsy shot too was straight at cluxton - any decent keeper would have stopped it, watch it again on you tube cluxton just falls back into the goal before anything happens and the ball is hit straight at him- it was a very poor shot in fairness and any decent keerer would have punished him for it, dont jump down my neck im not having a go i really enjoyed that goal but its not one of the greats and i dont think it ever will be considered one

the real legit scores well its mc donald v fitzgerald take your pick

nobody will remember this but Liam Keenan from longford scored a point against kerry in the 1st round of the league a few years back. on a wet day with gale force winds he was on the 45 towards the right hand side of the field. he just threw his leg at it and it sliced of the side of his boot high into the sky and towards the corner flag. the crowd started to groan and shout abuse at him but wat happened next was amazing. the wind caught the ball and it sailed over the black spot on the bar. a truly terrible shot but a brilliant score to witness all the same.

apart from that mulligans goal is up there with the best. Kerry v cork in the All ireland semi final a few years back. the gooch gave an exhibition of point taking(the best i've seen).

Canavans free against Armagh just for the sheer pressure that was on it. Tomas O'Se has kicked some crackers like against armagh 2 years ago. on the sideline runnin at full tilt bout 50 yards out and strikes it sweet as a nut over the bar.

in hurling dj careys point in the all ireland where he balanced the sliotar on the hurl and left ollie baker for dead and stroked it over the bar. careys point aswell and jamesie o'connors point (tink it was a munster final - cant recall) to win the game, any of dan shanahans goals in the last few years

Fair enough ball-boy each to their own. Mulligan did take too many steps but these days the referees seem to be giving a bit of lee-way about how many you can take. O'Hara's goal was a belter and those who say proviencal championships should be scrapped should look at what it meant to them Sligo boys

Joe Canning scoring a sideline cut from about 80 yards in the Galway championship a couple of years ago was probably the best I've seen. Cut it up into the sky like he had hit it with a pitching wedge and dropped it right over the black spot. Or Hohn Fenton's goal where he pulled on a loose ball and goaled from out near midfield.

In football the Meath goal against Dublin to win the 3rd replay in '91 was a brilliant score.

Hurling: Kevin Broderick's Pint v Kilkenny in 2001; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9HyF9tDaJQ

Football: The game was between Galway and Mayo in Castlebar. One of the Mayo players missed a 14 yard free right in front of the posts just before half time. I don't know his name but this young lad went on to the pitch at half time and took the free from the same spot. He was about 12 years of age and he put it straight over the bar. Biggest cheer of the day.

anotherone i forgot to mention...in the leinster minor final in 2002 it was Longford v meath. Michael Hussey from Longford scored one of the best goals ever seen in Croke Park. soloed in from the sideline across the pitch. soled a few dummys and buried it in the bottom corner with his left boot.wat a goal.

and john fentons goal from back in the 80's. pulled on the ball first time from a long way out and it flew into the top corner. wat a goal.

plunkett i honestly dont believe you have agreed with me i have restored my faith that there are some wise gaa people in ulster, fair play mate, the o hara one to me is the best i have ever seen on a few level, he is a true unsung hero and a sligo slatwart for donkeys years and the way he came onto that ball at pace noone stood a chance of stopping him it was a classic that and the resultant connacht medal is what made the goal and i dont think there has being a more derseving man true dedication that win was celebrated all over connacht and even galway people had a little smile on their face noon could begridge that.

Hurling
Peadar Carton of Dublin in last years U21 LHC Final.
He started the move from the full back line himself and ended up scoring the greatest hurling goal of all time!
I believe Canning, Dan the Man and Shefflin have been trying to replicate the score ever since but they just cannot master its skill and grace and power of finish!
Check it out on U-Tube!

Clearly BallBoy has no idea of the rules and lets his anti-Tyrone bias blind him to the fact that Mugsy's goal was the finest ever seen in Croker. Canavan's pressure point against Armagh is worth noting as are 2 sideline kicks I remember-one from Maurice Fitzgerald and one from Gerry Cavlan. On a pro-Tyrone note, few players could have taken the goal that Canavan did in the AI final. That was pure class. I also remember James McCartan scoring 2 cracker goals against Armagh as a despondent Down crowd were leaving; and what about Eamon Burn's point in the Ulster SFC in the early 90's?! Freeman has netted some gems for Monaghan as has McDonnell for Armagh. The Eoin Bradley screamer for Derry? So many to choose from really.

Ciaran Careys last minute winner v Clare in '96 at the end of an epic game in sweltering conditions at the Gaelic Grounds in limerick is still one of those G.A.A. moments/days i'll never forget. No back doors in those days!!

Snufalufagus, are you trying to tell me that Joe Canning even bothered to watch that goal.Joe Canning is to Peadar Carton what Manchester Utd is to Leyton Orient.

It's an insult to yourself to say such a thing.

That Dublin team were playing the worst U-21 Offaly team i've seen in a while. They would have had a tougher game against a 'Disney select'.

Was this the same U-21 team that Galway 'ABSOLUTELY HAMMERED' in the Final.Jaze i would have been ashamed to call myself a dubman that day.

Such an easy game that we didn't even celebrate that day.Stuff like that happens on a yearly basis to Galway people.
