Patrique is quite correct there. The Irish did a lot of the dirty work for the British Empire. In Australia the Aborigines still have bad memories of a very racist strongly Irish police force while along with the Scots and Welsh were at the forefront of the colonial wars in South Africa, India and the Far East. If my memory serves me Custer was of Irish stock possibly Ulster Scots and many Irish settlers were also responsible for taking the Native American lands. The Southern US states were populated by mostly WASP's a lot of them Ulster Scots. In the film Mississippi Burning the scene at the end where it showed those eventually charged looked like a rollcall for the DUP/UUP with names like Clayton, Townsley, Nevin Ulster Scots names.
