James O Brien returns to Limerick hurling panel

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Cove, will you wake up to whats going on, James O'Brien was not at training last night. He went on Tuesday having been told that others were going back on that night as well. He was the only one there and then read in the paper the morning after that he was back on the panel. I wish all the best hurlers in Limerick were training and playing with the county team but quite honestly the carry on by the county board in Limerick would not be accepted by clubs and supporters in any other county. We are being either laughed at or felt sorry for by other GAA people in other counties. Accountability is with the county board. Anyway I have a busy weekend, club training, Harty cup and a club challenge game, thats where its at now for me as I am fed up with this county team mess.

im annoyed and i hope some of the players see sense and return to the panel. ill be slated for saying this but i have to.

Whats happened is, a virus that came up from cork has spread to limerick's and clare's 'big time charlies'. Where would you get it, players striking on their own county and on their own people. On grounds some dropped players didn't get a letter/text or on grounds that they don't like the manager. 1 championship win in 8 years doesn't allow you to pick and choose your own manager im afraid. you dont get it in any other sport. PLAYERS PLAY not pick a team or a manager. what has happened to the pride and passion of hurling and representing your county. RESULTS determine whether a manager keeps his job or not. look at the lads this wknd in the Harty cup. Those lads are playing for themselves, their school and their county. The big time charlies, could watch them and learn something. in my view they have jumped ship. do we need them back? yes. but WHEN they do come back i hope they realise that no one is bigger than the team and no one is bigger than their county or the supporters they represent. and i hope they wont bully the next manager out. I hope james o brien stays with the panel. justins contract is up in june. he will be gone then when results dictate that. where will we be then? what lessons will be learned?

"He went on Tuesday having been told that others were going back on that night as well" .... in 2010 with mobile phones among many other forms of communication i cant believe that james thought more players would be at training. he could have easily picked up the phone to find out for sure who of the 09 players were going training.

I agree with your sentiments Clubgaa. Getting any player back before next Tuesday's CB meeting in order to avoid the difficult questions. Then we have all this publicity surrounding the return of one player for one night, but no results on the website, in the newspapers, on aertel. Olympians in incompetence.
Yes we do need to heal the divisions this dispute has caused but that healing can only come about by people moving off stage.

clubgaa, did you read the paper today?

here's the link for you: http://www.examiner.ie/sport/obrien-misses-limerick-training-but-insists-hes-back-113808.html

It seems your conspiracy theories have yet again being shown to be unfounded. Imagine you suggested on this forum that the county board had somehow duped James O'Brien into returning to the panel. I can't wait for your next theory, in these post celtic toger days we all need a good laugh!

Fair play to you cove you'll be county chairman this time next year and you'll sort out those players with their lies and spin-if you want the truth trust the county board, they never lie.

Did anyone hear if the reported "dissafected" players meeting took place this weekend and has any information emanated from it.

Lads the facts are that James was told that others were comming back as well and thats why he came back. Now we discover that there not comming back. Like I already stated in my previous post I wish all the best hurlers in Limerick were on the panel but thats not the case. This county board are presiding over the greatest farce in our history and the GAA people of Limerick are letting them get away with it. We deserve the county board we have.

clubgaa, every week you're on this forum telling us all these facts. Where are these facts that prove that James O'Brien only came back because he was told others were coming back? I don't see them? If you have facts then please present them.

Clubgaa James O'Brien is still training, and he participated in a challenge game the weekend... you might want to go away and make up some more relevant facts!..

since this board is more or less a fact free zone these days, can anyone confirm the rumours that a well know south limerick based sponsor of limerick hurling entered the limerick dressing room after the cork match, shook the hand of every player and told them how proud of them he was and that he would follow them everywhere they go and to stay hurling with limerick?

Alfie, I know James O'B is back on the panel, I was tryining to explain to you the circumstances around why he came back. You are the one who said O'Mahoney and others would be back, well it's quite clear now that they are not comming back. I have said before that I want our best 30 hurlers to be on the 2010 panel but as the weeks go by and the county board make no progress, the longer this goes on the worse it will get. Theres no winners here lads and some posters seem to think their winners if Justin stays on. Once Limerick slip out of the Top 10, the battle to get back will take years.
