Give me Whelan any day of the week, a man who actually wants to play for his country instead of that prima donna. Ireland has made his choice and good riddance to him

Why is there such a sudden change of opinion on glenn whelan? Not so long ago many were complaining that he wasn't fit to play international football and now all of a sudden hes being lauded as a midfield general ? Who in there rite mind would turn down Stephen Ireland if he was available to play for his country . . . A milion times more talented than whelan. Whelan is a good honest player but Ireland is a different type of player and a different class

I would rather see Andy Reid than either of them!

Glenn Whelan has always had my backing.

If the slate was to be wiped clean and both made themselves available then I would have a problem. Whelan for passion and determination. Ireland for skill and creativity. Would depend on the match in hand

A midfield which accomodated both their talents would be nice...

One is a footballer who wants to play for Ireland. The other has recently announced to ok or hello magazine how he never wants to play for us aagain and din't even like playing for us before. is there a choice?

Look at what glen whelan did to aaron ramsey. He kept calm and comforted the poor chap. If it had been stephen oreland he probably would have put his superman shorts over his head to avoid looking.

As footballers there is no comparison. As people there is no comparison. I'd go with whelan all day everyday.

Ability is one thing, attitude is another and in that respect there is only winner here, Whelan.

Its not really a valid argument as stephen ireland has absolutely no interest in playing 4 his country, i'd take anyone willing to give their best and who wants to be there wearing that jersey than someone who doesnt care to be honest.

Whelan wants to be there and fits into the system well, so him everytime. Ireland sees international duty as a chore so he can do one

no matter how about character, personality, effort, only one of them would make an enhancement to the irish team and it's ireland.
