U21's v Dublin

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The lads will take on Dublin next Saturday 6th March with the game penciled in for the Gaelic grounds in Drogheda. The Dubs as always will be formidable opposition for Louth. However having said that I do think this is a game Louth have a realistic chance of winning. Louth IMO have the players capable of beating Dublin and I just hope the lads themselves believe they can win.

Louth to win by a point.

Have they played anybody since Wexford or have they just trained. We looked really good last day out but I wonder about the gap and will training sessions amongst themselves keep them sharp and intense for the coming battle. Usually find an occasion against Dublin too much, but there could well be something different about this bunch. Best of luck ..... Louth by 2?

I belive Louth can win this game and I am not dreaming.I have attended most of the training sessions since the Wexford game and I have been very impressed with the committment and hunger of the Louth players.

By the way I hate jam.

Dublin should win but Louth will push them hard and there should be no more than 10 points in it.

Dublin will be strong as usual, they wiped Louth completely out last year in Drogheda.
Hopefully we could get a win but it will be tough.

Ahh lads. No faith in these young fellas? What would they need to do before you'd lend them a bit of support. Should we not be encouraging the best u21 panel in 20 years. They've won well. Appear to be quality players and I'm fairly sure nobody knows anything about the Dubs, apart from history and silly assumptions. I for one would like to offer them my unconditional support. It's this sort of putting down that has young fellas beaten before they start. Com on the Wee County.

People we have the team all we need now is for the good people of Louth to come out in large numbers and pack the Dowdallshill venue. The Dubs most certainly would not like to see a large vocal contingent of support for Louth particularly at this venue where the main crowd will be standing very close to the Dowdallshill pitch.

To quote "I'm fairly sure nobody knows anything about the Dubs, apart from history and silly assumptions".

Well you are wrong, some of us on here from Louth are actually quite educated in our Gaelic Games, and dont just come out for the summer championship matches.

The Dublin team are a good team, and have serious ambitions for an All Ireland, as they really feel they left it behind them last year in the Semi Final against Cork. They played challenges against Carlow, Wicklow, DCU, Tyrone and Cork recently and are very happy with how they are progressing. When the regional tournament/trial matches were being held before xmas for the senior squad the Under 21's were entered as a regional team to get used to playing together, they were called the Colts.

They have good strength in depth, but will be absent Darragh Stapleton (superb player for the minors last year, scored 1-09 in All Ireland Semi Final vs Down), and Ted Furman (pulled his hamstring playing league match for Ballymun last Sunday. Gary Seavers is out til at least summer with broken shoulder, and he would also have been a starting player.

Full back will be Rory O'Carroll from Kilmacud, who played there for the Dublin Seniors in the O'Byrne Cup. Johnny Cooper wing back is another Dublin Senior Panelist, plays for Na Fianna and was superb on the DCU team who won the Sigerson final last weekend. He was rested against Louth in the O'Byrne cup final. James McCarthy from Ballymun is centre back, he has played wing back for the Dublin Seniors in the league games so far against Kerry and Derry. Nicky Devereux played for Kilmacud when they won the All Ireland Club final last year.

Their main threat is the full forward line, where Dean Rock from Ballymun and Barry O'Rourke from Kilmacud are lethal in the corners, McIntyre from Brigids will likely be full forward, and he is a serious player. Niall Brogan will probably be centre forward and he is a ball winner, and knows where the posts are too.

Even on their bench they have players like David Quinn (both of them, one from Lucan, on from Na Fianna) who both starred for Maynooth as they reached the Sigerson semi final.

Interestingly both O'Carroll and McCarthy are due to attend the AFL Aussie Rules trials in Gormanstown this week also.

Main area I can see going for Louth is midfield, where I feel we (as I am actually a proud Louth man) did really well against Wexford, but McEnaney will have to seriously up his work rate at centre forward compared to the last day as Cooper and McCarthy are dangerous breaking from half back.

Anyone have any other queries, please feel free, I love a good intelligent debate...........

The common factor between the louth and dublin camps is a challange match with DCU.

Dublin drew with dcu
DCU beat louth

Therefore i expect Dublin to hammer louth...hopefully

I agree with Joseff as Louth are useless and Dublin are class.

Good man yourself tb2002ster, any chance you could give me a run down how the Louth lads are doing. Who's playing well and who's not etc etc ?. What players on the Louth team do you think are our biggest asset and why. Do you think the Dowdallshill venue will pose any problems for Dublin ?.

as much as id love to see louth win, ill think ill keep to the honest opinions i give on here.
dublin are just to big of a county with a huge selection on offer. most of these lads are on... or are been groomed for the seniors and will move through in good time. these are the best lads louth have but most wont break into the first team as its not the done thing.
best of luck to louth tho
