Parnells Poaching

An abpsolute disgrace. Imagine being a young lad in that club trying to get a run and this kind of thing is going on. You wouldn't be long about transferring yourself. I would never play with someone getting paid to play. This is what this boils down to.

I doubt if a guard is being offered a fulltime job as a coach
________

I know Rooney is a guard, but Begley is a Games Promotion Officer. Of course you already knew this dhorse, and you could probably tell us what jobs the other two of your countymen are doing too. Nothing wrong with players moving to clubs nearer their work in my view.

Agreed, same as a player going to work at AFL in Australia. MJ has stated that he doesn't want to work in coaching but the club will "Help" him find a job in PR. lets face it, at the present time there's not a whole heap of PR jobs in ballaroan. There are some issues that need to be brought out in the open regards inducements to people, especially managers, in the GAA, but kicking up a fuss about 4 and possibly 5 players going to one club is avoiding the bigger issues, I doubt however that the people at the top on big salaries are going to want too much light shed on the subject, expect another press release about money being given to clubs AGAIN

They are not getting paid to play, unlike some players who decide to spend their summers in Chicago or New York for example. So I take it you think that a player should only be allowed play for the club he grew up playing with?

Brian Lacey moved to Kildare because he was working and living in Kildare. A little different to going out to poach players. But I do take your point.

He approached Parnells. It's a recession and the few jobs around are in Dublin. What's he supposed to do? Live on the dole back in Laois or drive 2 hours everytime he has a training session?

Have to agree with Daytona. I understand certain lads relocate to clubs in and around the Dublin area due to work commitments but this situation is taking it to another degree. In my opinion Parnell's are directly recruiting players and the whole practice is pay for play regardless of what way you look at it. I'm sure there a number of players within the Parnells club, as with all clubs around the country, who are on the dole. Why is it they are not getting offered coaching jobs? The simple fact is Parnells are hiring players that will improve the clubs chances of success. If this means giving them coaching jobs or helping them "find" a job it is still pay for play because at the end of the day it's all about getting them to play for the club.

We had our own "poaching player" saga a couple of years back with Thomas Walshe. I didn't like it one bit. I don't hold it against the Laois boys, they are only trying to get by in difficult times but the actions of Parnell s goes against the whole ethos of the GAA.

Armagh and fermanagh men played for dublin clubs do not recall any of those coaches.

On that point Dell Navan O'Mahony's lose far more players to Bective than vice versa. I'd still like to know the names of those clubs
