I think this is getting a bit of a joke now as they have four players from loais on there books and some clubs in few counties are getting players like this for success and it will ruin small clubs and it should be stopped now to protect clubs . Dell, Parnells are a GAA club spending money they received from the sale of their old facilities in promoting GAA in their area. The jobs given to some of the players are that of coaching youngsters in schools and underage teams. Would you rather the players stay in Laois on the dole? nocky (Wexford) - Posts: 2059 - 25/02/2010 20:27:17 573451 Link 0 |
If players were being paid to be play for those teams, or monies were exchanged from one club to another as a result of a transfer, then that would be fundamentally wrong. Arranging employment for players,on the other hand, is pretty common and harmless. JuanVeron (Westmeath) - Posts: 1866 - 25/02/2010 20:40:04 573463 Link 0 |
nocky but there gaining ground over others by offereing players jobs ,cars etc and it is getting bad in dublin and meath for this type of payment shall i call it .Even look at the fennal case he wants to leave a small club to go to a bigger club for money or success . On the dole thing why should players get special treatment over a normal person that is out of a job . Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 25/02/2010 20:51:32 573479 Link 0 |
Dell, as I said the players are being hired to be full-time GAA coaches. That is what makes it different to "normal people on the dole". And who are you to criticise players for moving to Dublin or anywhere else for employment? The fact is we're in the middle of a recession and there aren't any jobs in many small towns and villages around Ireland. As Juan has said, what is the difference between a player moving to Dublin or Sydney? The end result is the same - the player's home club loses out on his services. That is the way things work in the real world Dell. nocky (Wexford) - Posts: 2059 - 25/02/2010 20:58:15 573492 Link 0 |
Reminds me of a club in Tyrone, Urney I think they are called. They're forever 'poaching' players from Donegal, just for a game or two sometimes and then they go back to the home club. I've even marked boys against Urney who didnt know their team mates names! What do you think of that carry on dell? maor_uisce (Tyrone) - Posts: 167 - 25/02/2010 21:06:11 573506 Link 0 |

I hate the head in the sand approach of people to this issue. Its black and white, its either ok and within the amateur status of the organisation or not. The defence of "no rules were broken" does not make it ok, those of you who cry dumb are only outlining your shame at this sort of crap. Dublin clubs have been stripping country clubs for years now. The approcah to the Walsh transfer in Wicklow is similarly shameful. getonwithit (Carlow) - Posts: 527 - 25/02/2010 21:44:50 573579 Link 0 |
Sure if Dublin GAA (and not the club) are paying these player's to coach young lad's then how could it possibly be a bad thing ?,Laois GAA didn't offer them job's so they looked out for no.1 and went to Dublin and fair deuce to them Duffy89 (Wexford) - Posts: 3320 - 25/02/2010 21:45:13 573580 Link 0 |

Lads, when a fella lives and works in a different county, he is free to go to a club in that county. If a lad has no job at home, then he has got to go and if a club helps him along, well good luck to all. But a lad going to a different club in same county, well that is different and home club have a case. As one who travelled home for years to play, midweek training and games is a pain and I understand why a lad would transfer for quality of life, heartbreaking and all that is for home club and player alike. Moral of the story is that a renewal of rural Ireland is vital to give lads a chance of staying at home. carcracker (Monaghan) - Posts: 186 - 25/02/2010 21:57:00 573607 Link 0 |
