573896 BBC News reported last night that the deceased was suspected of being an informer, and may have led the authorities to a drugs bust in Donegal. Why would the RIRA kill such a man who was working against drug dealers?

OmaghRedHand no one has the right to take another man's life, he didn't deserve to die. If he was involved in a terrorist organisation or with drugs then he should have been brought through the courts and dealt with appropriately. This is supposed to be a democratic country after all.

CorkCelt you seem to confuse opposition to the IRA with support for the British Army and Authorites. It is possible to support neither side, in fact a lot of Nationalists would be in the same position as me. I don't see the difference between Republicans killing a man in 2010 to Republicans killing a man in 2007 or indeed any time in the past 40 years. This argument of them being 'dehumanised' as justification for it is actually extremely insulting to those innocent people who were killed. Do you think Loyalists who killed innocent Catholics were 'dehumanised' by the war and hence carried out these actions?

No I do not think the growing of cannabis is an action deserving of the death penalty.

Pomeroy You obviously chose not to answer my question. I'm not confusing anything. The point I am trying to make is that entire protest was about the British Government trying to criminalise the prisoners. The media were also involved, The words Terrorist, and IRA Godfathers were the new vocabulary everything possible was done to break these men and to criminalise them. They saw themselves as patriots prepared to give their freedom and their lives that people of this generation and future generations would live in a better place and in a better way. They resisted heroically and in my opinion they won. I totally accept the right of you and anybody else to hold a different viewpoint but I do find it extremely difficult to take, when Irishmen now living in a better environment continue to try and do what the Thatcher Government failed to do and that is to criminalise these men. I am not afraid of debate with you or anyone else on this forum but quite frankly I have enough of this thread and regardless of the provocation will not post again on it.

Both sides mistreated prisoners.

CorkCelt you are taking a few prisoners who died for their cause and applying it to the whole of the IRA. I have no respect for those that killed civilians based on their religion and I have no respect for the majority of these people. If you think they deserve respect because other members of this organisation went on a hunger strike then I think you're wrong. And to me anyone that kills innocent people is a criminal, call me old fashioned in that respect. I lived through it and with all due respect reading a few books about it or going to the Ardoyne for a boozy weekend doesn't mean that you understand the situation. But if you feel unable to debate with me feel free to leave

pomeroy.plunkett.
tell me who on here has defended the actions of whoever carried out this young mans murder in derry.
i certainly did not, and i do not see a post elswhere suggesting it was right.
another thing i have read corkcelts posts, and he does not come across someone who has just read a few books, or enjoyed a boozy weekend in northbelfast.
i am sure he went there 2 learn more about the great city of belfast , and by his posts the man seems educated.
