Basically, have Down any chance of winning Ulster this year? I think they look tasty at 10s

Think the Ulster race is wide open (bar cavan!). especially if Tyrone continue to underperform.

the winner of Down and Donegal will make the final. If they lose they will take a scalp or two in the back door.

Think Down are in with a great shout this year, although Donegal ar going well and they will have Tyrone or Antrim in the semi. Tough draw but they are in with as big a shout as any esp with Clarke in the fold although the loss of Dan Gordon is a big shock and will be hard to replace

The Clarke you refer to is probably Marty, but its his brother John who's playing great football for Down. Would expect to see them in the Ulster Final. Think big Dan will be back by that stage.

Please note this thread was started outside Down!

In with a shout, starting with a very tough trip to Donegal. team much improved so you never know.

Some very good players: Coulter, Gordon, both Clarkes, Rogers, Colgan, Hughes, McComiskey, Doyle.

I reckon whoever wins out of Down and Donegal will be a tough proposition.

Turbo you're having a laugh? Just because Maigh Eo beat Tir Eoghain last week doesn't mean ME are better than TE, because they aren't. Ulstern football is at the top of the pile.

If the Down were at home or if it was being played in Clones I'd tip Down. The fact that it's in Ballybofey will hopefully swing it in our favour though. Forgetting last year's upsetting loss to Antrim of course(!)

nice price but the bookies dont get it wrong very often, saying that Tyrone look very beatable this year, Armagh will come good again but at the mo very beatable, get over Donegal and you are sitting on a nice bet at 10s

I was thinking the same thing Lockjaw then remembered Antrim last year! Donegal are never easy to beat in Ballybofey, and bar last year's surprise by Antrim, they have taken some major scalps up there in League and Championship. I would fancy them to shade the Down game, but only just!

Yeah I think the key will be keeping young Murphy fit and focused. By all accounts Down's full back line isn't the best so him and McFadden could do some serious damage in there. Hopefully Rory Kavanagh will be back from his travels and young Griffin and Hanlon will be able to step it up another level for Championship football.

Looking at the draw think it will be difficult for down to win ulster starting with a difficult tie in ballybofey followed id say with a tie against tyrone which is always a hard fought match. Even if they do manage to beat these teams which im not sure about they would have a difficult final against derry, monaghan or armagh ( no offense fermanagh and cavan but dont think either of us has a hope). Down would be a better shout in the back door making the quarters if the draw is descent to them.
