according to newspaper reports there is a possibility of a pre season friendly taking place between these giants in the summer. what an occasion it would be for all irish fans of these clubs - imagine YNWA being sang by celtic and pool fans. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11640 - 15/02/2010 14:05:51 561739 Link 0 |
Why let a nothing friendly between two nothing teams (neither of whom are Irish) take place in the home of the GAA. Stupid idea that hopefully will never happen pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 15/02/2010 15:33:51 561875 Link 0 |
My God after all the debate of opening Croker for Irish International Games, now you want to let two British Soccer teams play there.... Liamwalkinstown (Dublin) - Posts: 8166 - 15/02/2010 15:42:25 561885 Link 0 |
Why would we let 2 British teams play in Croke Park. And could you pick 2 worser teams.. Lofty (Monaghan) - Posts: 727 - 15/02/2010 16:02:10 561927 Link 0 |
I agree Liam, that would be a step too far. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12387 - 15/02/2010 16:03:07 561930 Link 0 |
Don't see the problem. Money for the GAA to make up for some of the lost revenue from international soccer and rugby matches which can be invested back into the organisation. If it's economically viable for everyone involved then let's have it. nocky (Wexford) - Posts: 2059 - 15/02/2010 16:08:14 561939 Link 0 |
Anthony Forde hasn't played often at Croker because he and Cavan don't deserve to. Harsh but true pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 15/02/2010 16:19:08 561962 Link 0 |

Wouldn't mind seeing it if the powers that be allow it. The two clubs with the biggest Irish roots playing back were those who set them up were from would be marvellous. laflour (Cavan) - Posts: 528 - 15/02/2010 17:46:53 562131 Link 0 |

Care to suggest two "actual Irish clubs" capable of making a once-off friendly match in Croker financially viable paddy? nocky (Wexford) - Posts: 2059 - 15/02/2010 19:24:34 562288 Link 0 |

Duffy As far as I know the term Kop comes from a Hill in South Africa called Spion Kop where there was a famous battle during the Boer War. Afterwards a number of high terraces at Football grounds were nicknamed Spion Kop but the Liverpool name in particular survived. Paddy, as you well know there is nothing makey uppy about Celtic's Irish roots, founded by a Sligo Marist Brother to raise Funds to provide Penny Dinners for starving Irish Children in Glasgow, Founding Fathers all had strong Fenian backgrounds and when they moved to present ground in 1892 your fellow County man and one of the most famous Mayo man of all times, Michael Davitt turned the opening sod, He was subsequently made a patron of the Club. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 15/02/2010 20:03:11 562394 Link 0 |
