Why let a nothing friendly between two nothing teams (neither of whom are Irish) take place in the home of the GAA. Stupid idea that hopefully will never happen

My God after all the debate of opening Croker for Irish International Games, now you want to let two British Soccer teams play there....

I agree Liam, that would be a step too far.

I've gone to plenty of Ireland matches, soccer and rugby, in Croke Park but it still annoys me greatly that Liam Lawrence, Isaac Boss, Martin Castrogiovanni etc etc have played at Croke Park more often than say Anthony Forde.

Don't see the problem. Money for the GAA to make up for some of the lost revenue from international soccer and rugby matches which can be invested back into the organisation. If it's economically viable for everyone involved then let's have it.

Anthony Forde hasn't played often at Croker because he and Cavan don't deserve to. Harsh but true

If playing at Croke Park was the pinnacle of GAA sport, I would fully agree with you. However the opening of Croke Park to other sports and the playing of opening round Leinster championship matches has drastically diluted the history and honour of the place. This is why I disagreed with the opening of the stadium.

In the current circumstances, Anthony Forde or any other Gaa member deserves to play there a million times more than any professional athlete.

PS 5 All Irelands 39 Ulsters ;)

Wouldn't mind seeing it if the powers that be allow it. The two clubs with the biggest Irish roots playing back were those who set them up were from would be marvellous.

Liverpool certainly don't have the "biggest Irish roots", they didn't even select Irish players until the '70s, although they weren't alone among British teams in this regard.

Since when do Liverpool have Irish roots? Irish fans deciding to support them in the 70s doesn't make them Irish. Liverpool were always traditionally a protestant side, with no ties whatsoever to the emigrant population in the city.

Care to suggest two "actual Irish clubs" capable of making a once-off friendly match in Croker financially viable paddy?

Well its a long term plan Nocky, when Irish people start supporting clubs in there own country after they finish trying to justify supporting British clubs with the makey uppy "Irish roots" then there could be a game between Irish clubs that could be viable for croker. I see the famous bar stool republican quote from Duffy that the KOP=king over pope, a quote from "True Irishmen" in the pubs that use it to try and wind up other fellas thatsupport an "Irish club" such as Celtic and Everton.

Duffy As far as I know the term Kop comes from a Hill in South Africa called Spion Kop where there was a famous battle during the Boer War. Afterwards a number of high terraces at Football grounds were nicknamed Spion Kop but the Liverpool name in particular survived. Paddy, as you well know there is nothing makey uppy about Celtic's Irish roots, founded by a Sligo Marist Brother to raise Funds to provide Penny Dinners for starving Irish Children in Glasgow, Founding Fathers all had strong Fenian backgrounds and when they moved to present ground in 1892 your fellow County man and one of the most famous Mayo man of all times, Michael Davitt turned the opening sod, He was subsequently made a patron of the Club.
