Minor hurling team

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

wexfords minor team this year is a very talented if somewhat lightweight bunch. theres some very nippy and classy hurlers in there such as andrew kenny, james gordon, syl barron, diarmuid o keefe, cathal clince, gary moore and i fully expect us to compete and be seriousely competetive leinster final at least this year. One minor breakthrough followed by a competetive year at under 21 and senior this year would be a massive step in the right direction. im confident that wel be competetive in all grades of hurling this year. reaching and winning the league final and hurling to our maximun for 70 mins v galway and others in the championship would leave us in a very interesting position.

Word on the street is that the Kk Minor team is very good this year lads.....
Its hard to deal with a conveyor belt like they have but I think that success at underage for certain counties is not what the focus should be, rather it should be the retention of guys between Minor-21-Senior level for future teams.
Other counties don't use the Intermediate championship to the same level of success as Kk either, again this team plugs those gaps a little by keeping players in the system...
Great to see Anton post in here, about time Wexford man. He is giving ye a bad name. I think ye will beat us by 7-10 points, but sure whatabout it, no point in scaring ye this year but falling back, incremental progress is the name of the game.

minor hurling v waterford should be interesting, there doing underage work themselves. at minor level its all about developing players for future senior team, winning and being successful comes second. kk are excellent at underage again this year, they want to make up for losing to galway in the final last year.

I have seen a couple of their games so far and they look very good.A few more games now before championship comes around and they will have a very good chance of success.

If we won a Leinster Minor hurling championship I would be considering the year a success, no matter what any other team does.

i would argree with you their pinkie. minor and under 21 are more important to us this year than senior. we need to win leinster ir at least really compete in both this grades. this years minor team is a very highly rated bunch, diarmuid o keefee has a big big future in the game, lee chin has been very impressive so far to.

Think one of the Carlow boys here pointed out a very good comment. Winning a Minor title will be a great bust but I'd rather not win one and keep the lads going through to Senior. Kilkenny are alway going to be a handful but if we could get a couple of back to back competitive minor teams together who can hold their own against the Kilkenny Minor teams then we will be OK if we can keep the players.

Like one Leinster minor title isn't going to scare a county with the following record in recent years of All-Ireland titles:
U21 - 99, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008
Minor - 2002, 2003, 2008

Leinster Minor - 2001, '02, '03, '04, '06, '08, '09 (Pretty scary eh?)

And a county who prove that underage success doesn't necessarily bring senior:
Galway:
U/21 - '96, 2005, 2007
Minor - '99, '00, 04, '05, '09

And you honestly think winning a minor will not bring these lads on and have them believe that they can beat KK? One problem with Wexford at the moment is a lack of belief that we can beat KK. That is nonsence ColinWex- if we won 1 we could win many more, we may start somewhere.

I agree perfect10. If and hopefully when the minors win the first round against offaly they won't be facing kilkenny until the final in croke park. Is there a better stage to beat them in.what a great lift it would give to the county and the players.
