According to the Lancashire website the Senior Championship starts on Thursday.

Reckon all the games should be tight, this should be the best championship for a long time.

I agree bigtom. 3 great games in prospect. So here we go, nice and early, my predictions...

LANCASHIRE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

[b]Oisin v St Annes
On paper this should be a reasonably straight forward win for the Didsbury side. However you have to factor in the fact this is championship football. Amazingly Annes are going for 3 wins in a row over Oisins at this stage, they'll be confidant, make no mistake. Home advantage didn't help Oisins much last season, and it wont make a jot of difference this year either if they again go in mentally unprepared. Perhaps it'll be 3rd time lucky for Oisins, but it wont be easy. Oisins by 4 points.

St Brendans v St Lawrences

Both teams are expected to make a much greater impression on this years championship than last. Lawrences have shown some signs of quality at times this year, while Brendans have been very impressive, even making the semi-finals of the pennine league in their top-flight debut. The teams havent met this season so its difficult to know what to expect but I fancy Brendans to have too much quality. St Brendans by 9 points.

St Peters v John Mitchels
The pick of the ties, last years championsip final, the favourates away to a big bannana skin! peters look even stronger than last year and beat Mitchels well only a few weeks ago, but have they shown their hand too early? Both teams will feel they can win this one and that should make for a great game. I still fancy the Liverpool team to have too much experience of grinding out results here. Mitchels to win by 7 points.

I was Hough End last night, Peters won very comfortably, the Lancashire website has the score wrong at 2-10 to 0-7 as Mitchell's got a goal in the first couple of minutes, they followed it up with a point shortly after but that was it for the rest of the half. Peters contained them easily enough for the rest of the half and scored 2 points from frees in what was a scrappy first half. But that suited Peters as they knew the breeze was gaining momentum and would be to there advantage in the second half.

Second half was all Peters, won Midfield easily and nearly every breaking ball with it. Possessed more of a threat going forward and looked dangerous every time they did, probably could have scored more goals if they went looking for them.

Mitchell's will be the first to admit they were poor and apart from the first ten minutes they were never on top, Peters were sharper and wanted it more. I'm sure Mitchell's will be back and will remain favourites for the championship but Peters are worthy contenders.

Anyone at the Oisins v Ann's game?

its official, mitchells are a sinking ship, totally outplayed by peters last nite from start to finish. peters are no world beaters either, some sloppy play and got lucky on occasions. In general the standard in lancashire has dropped doesnt bode well for the team that represents us in the all britain, on recent performances id say that would be oisins- that says it all!

horsebox - Mitchells will back, you're just talking your chances down. Still favourites to win it along with Peters. Peters have added some very good players since last year and you're probably missing a few.

Yeah horse box, dont be so quick to talk Mitchels down. They know when they havta peak and they are still the favourates for the championship in my book.

Now they have started with a defeat they will be twice as dangerous. It wouldn't suprise me if that will be Mitchels last defeat of the year.

That said, I wouldn't for a second take anything away from St Peters who are a darn good side.

The only standard that has dropped in Lancashire is that of Mitchels, the rest has improved, that will make for a great championship.

Evening Gents,

Just looking at a couple of the comments made there. I was at the Mitchels v Peters game, and I did notice that both teams were missing key players through injury.

I wouldn't read too much into that game as both sides will come back alot stronger in the next few weeks. Although I was a bit suprised at Mitchels as usually they have more strength and depth than any of the clubs. In saying that getting a squad of players from Liverpool to Manchester on a Thursday evening isn't easy!

For any neutral Lancashire GAA follower the championship game between St Brendan's & St. Lawrence's will now take place this Wednesday at Hough End, throw in at 7:30pm.

Would have to agree with horsebox, Mitchels are a spent force!! We were training in Turn Moss last night but had one eye on the game across the way. The Peters team last night were head and shoulders above any team to come from Mitchels over the last 4 years and would expect them to go one better than what the Liverpool boys did 2 years ago back in Eire. Who do they play in the first round of the All Britain??

Chicko boy...

Why would you, as a Mitchels man, be training at Turnmoss when ur team mates were playing against Peters!!? If you are tyrin to say you are from another Manchester club, dont make me laugh!

A quick scan back over this very thread makes it blatenty obvious you are a Mitchels man.

So yeah just like horsebox you play down your teams chances. You wont be fooling many though, anyone who counts Mitchels as a spent force at this stage needs their head examened!

ps- you said you had one eye on the Peters, Mitchels game when you were training at Turn Moss... You must have some eyesite, the game was at Houghend!

I know most of it, not sure who the goalie was.

Full back line was Fitzpatrick-Oisins, Gibney-Brendans, Boyle - Brendans. Only know 2 of the half backs, Molomphy-Brendans, Shane Gallagher-Peters.

Midfield was Ruari from Lawrences and Liam Coyne from Anns.

Not sure who played in what postiion but the forwards were Plant- Brendans, Colton from Lawrences, Meeney from Peters, Ahearn from Anns, Coss and O'Connor from Oisins.

Horsebox is right. The standard of football in the county looks to be poor at present. The fact that Oisin's and Peter's are the two championship favourites highlights this weakness. Mitchell's look to be a spent force. Lawrence's are struggling. Brendan's will do well to pick up any points at all in the championship. Anne's may as well not field. An absolute shambles if we are being honest lads.

Horsebox is dead right...the standard of football in Lancashire is dire at present. Mitchell's are a spent force and anyone who says otherwise is only kidding themselves. Lawrence's are struggling...as they have been for the past few years. Brendan's will do well to pick up any points and would be lucky to avoid he wooden spoon. Anne's may as well not bother turning up. Oisin's will hope their tough pre-season schedule holds them in good stead for the championship, but in reality they are no use either. Peter's look to be in the driving seat. As well as having a decent side they also have the benefit of controlling the fixture list. It all makes for a poor quality spectacle.

You are a bitter wee man as your username suggests lol! Thats now 3 or 4 Mitchels lads comin out of the woodwork talkin abt themselves bein a spent force! Pass the salt lads, I need a pinch or 10! And in whos book is Peters and Oisins now the favourates, eh? Mitchels are still the team to beat, they've got the players, the experience and now the knowledge that they cant afford anymore defeats. They will be dangerous.

Peters have their best team in a good number of years, Oisins have been consistly Manchesters strongest team over the past few years, and although Peters may be now Oisins still have quality. Like Peters, Brendans have their strongest team in a while, in fact this is the best Brendans team I have ever seen. Anns and Lawrences might not win the championship fair enough. But they are well capable of springing a shock or two each.

The OVERALL standard in the county is much higher than even a few years ago. Yeah Mitchels may not be up to the level they were at when they got to croker, but almost every other team has improved. And make no mistake I know some Mitchels lads very well, and they most certainly are NOT believing they are on the way down.
