Robbie Keane to Celtic

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Seems to be a real option according to a few media outlets this morning.
This would be a disaster for him. Moving from Tottenham to Celtic would be like moving from Kildare to Waterford footballers.
Surely this wont happen, for the love of God Robbie, have some pride
At the moment the only real "big club" possibly he could go to is Everton, but not sure they have the money.
Sunderland would be an awful move, but still far better then Celtic.

Would be a great scoop for Celtic tho.
Everton would be the best deal for both parties. Would imagine his wages would be a huge problem in a deal with Celtic tho.
Would love to see it but doubt it. If they were still in the champions league it might be a little incentive, like traveling to the camp nou or san siro could lure him, not travelling to St Mirren in the snow!

It wont happen.

Every transfer window Celtic get linked with him. The same way they were always linked with Ian Harte, Damien Duff and half the Ireland international team. I heard Kilbane's name mentioned last week as well. I shudder at the very prospect of that.

its not so much Celtic FC i have a problem with him moving to, its the SPL. He may as well go to Boh's!!!

i am one of those who is convinced with everything Celtic have going for them, IF IF IF they got into the EPL they would be one of the worlds biggest clubs and challenging for the EPL within 5 years.

I dont think the huns have the same marketablility and potential as a football club as Celtic atall.

But i think due to security issues, it will never happen. Celtic away to Chelsea/West Ham/Birmingham etc would be a disaster waiting to happen.

Celtic won't come close to matching the wage he's on at Spurs. Can't see it happening but would love if it did. He would score a lot of goals in Scotland

Robbie wants to keep playing premier league football and has made no secret that he feels playing in the Scottish premier league would be a step down, Sunderland looks like if he go's he goes there close to Big Quinny

I will be SHOCKED if this happens. Don't see it, every single transfer window the red tops come up with this rubbish. Keane would cost circa £9m, so McGeady would need to be sold first, and his wages would have to be funded by Desmond like Roy Keane's were. Don't agree with you Liam that it'd be a terrible move for him, he'd bang in goals left right and centre in the SPL, and for strikers it's all about confidence and scoring goals. It'd be better than sitting on Spurs' bench anyway. But it won't happen. Celtic have already signed two strikers this transfer window. Keane will end up at Sunderland or West Ham, or still at Spurs.

If you weren't clapped out why would you go from the premiership to the spl?I can't believe Keane is contemplating a move to that backwater.

Sure every irish footballer could be called a "boyhood" celtic fan!
We all had a gra for them at some point in our lives, even if it was for a week or 2

But most of us grow out of it. In my case, (used to be a fanatical Celtic fan, had so many jerseys, scarfs, posters, went over 4 times) it was the attitude of Celtic "fans" that put me off them.

Sit in a pub any old firm day and listen to the neandrethals.... make you sick.

Funny thing is, the Scottish Celtic Fans i sat beside anytime i was in Parkhead were much more mellow and reasoned. But the pub republicans that rear their ugly heads everytime there is a Celtic Rangers game in any pub in Ireland make me sick and put me right off them. Couldnt bear to associate myself with them.

So Liam, you stopped supporting Celtic because of the idiots who associate themselves with the club on Old Firm Sundays. As a Celtic fan I too am embarrassed by the undesirable element who attach themselves to the club and think Celtic is part of the "cause" or something ridiculous like that. Truth is, Celtic Football Club is just that, a football club. Unlike Rangers sectarianism has never been a club policy, and Celtic FC is an apolitical organisation. It is not the fault of the club itself or genuine supporters that these undesirables attach themselves.

"Sit in a pub any old firm day and listen to the neandrethals.... make you sick", you say. Well sit in a pub on Manchester or Liverpool Derby day and the hatred and bile from some "supporters" will make you sick too.

Northpole, you stopped supporting Celtic because you "realised they weren't up to much". Typical glory-hunting Man United supporter then I presume, or are you a Chelski fan who is now considering switching allegiances to Man City because they have a richer owner?

I think every Irishman goes through a phase of supporting Celtic, I grew out of it around 13 when I realised supporting a Scottish club because of your religion is the height of stupidity. As for Keane it's better to be playing than not playing, wish it was at a decent standard though. He's too good for that team, the Championship is at a much higher standard than the SPL. Pity O'Neill didn't snap him up, he'd do well at Villa
