I wholeheartedly agree ruanua, what is the deal with this hard-case bit he keeps goin on wit? Is this guy for real? He would be better served dropping the stage show and taking a leaf out of federers book.
32, didnt you predict nadal would be head and shoulders above federer by now? Just another in ur long list of personal dislikes affecting ur judgement

I dont think anyone here is doubting murrays talent, and yes many dont like him myself included, but as i said already before the final this morning,he simply isnt good enough when the pressure comes on,he crumbles.you could be the best player in the world at your sport technically, but its how you react when the pressure comes on and how you keep your head which makes you a champion, and ultimately defines you.murray simply does not have it between the ears, pure and simple.

Ruanua
I agree. Murray is a great player but his sideshow is what puts me off. He appeared to have a thigh problem a hip problem and a lower back problem at various times yesterday. At all levels of all sports I often notice that the person with the most injuries is the one least likely to get over the line and this is not physical but mental. One of the match commentators said yesterday that he never remembers Federer getting on court treatment. My opinion regarding this was formed many years ago watching my own children play sport and I noticed that the loser always seems to be preparing excuses long before they have lost. And I can see a lot of that in Murray. My views on him might also improve if the cameras would let me see less of his tonsils.

God, ye's are all very bitter.
Federer was better than him yesterday, Federer is better than everyone most days.
As a fan of murrays I strongly believe he will win a grandslam some day. He is still young and will have many more chnaces. He had his chances yesterday, should have took the third before the tie break and had a few good chances in the first before Federer took it away from him.

Id say he'll be more like padraig harrington. Look how long it took him to win a major.

Ya have to laugh at the media in the UK sometimes. All hype about Murray and his great fitness then he loses because he was tired. Despite the fact that his semi was before Federer's

AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Does anyone on these pages now what "bottling it" means?
Wayne, are you saying Murray is BETTER than Federer?
If not, HOW DID HE BOTTLE IT?
To "bottle it" is to lose when you are favourite, or even 50/50. Kilkenny hurlers losing to Tyrone, or Tyrone footballers losing to Kilkenny, that is bottling it.
However Dublin losing to Kerry and Tyrone is not bottling it. Kerry and Tyrone had better sides at the time.

Would you rate mcenroe as the best ever tennie player?
I do. And so did Dan Maskell.
Mac never trained, and was never really that dedicated, but his touchy was sublime.

he got injured. its funny when nadal was fully fit federer was winning less and less until he was winning nothing as nadal kept improving, suddenly nadals injured and he's winning everything again. nadal IS head and shoulders above federer. just wait until he's fully fit again. even when federer did beat nadal, it was a major uphill battle that federer would just scrape by, yet nadal had the ability at times to completely blow federer off court like in the 2008 french open and win at a canter

Or over rated?
Now up to number 3 in the world, and the reality is, unless Nadal recovers, he is probably number 2.
In the WORLD.
That means, unbelievably, he could beat ANYONE in Tyrone at tennis.

Because individuals play against each other and do not rely on team-mates the measurement of success or greatness tends to be less subjective. Also in tennis or Golf the fact that there is one single sporting body at the highest level even further reduces the capacity for debate unlike say boxing or darts even. So usually any debate has to be by reference to different eras.
So those nice chaps at ATP are of the opinion that Federer has been the best in the world for 270 odd weeks and Nadal for 40 odd. Though perhaps the ranking system is unfair as it does not penalise you for only winning when your opponent is injured. Also maybe the fact that it only ranks the French open on a par with the other 3 majors is yet another distortion.

cant really agree about mcenroe been the greatest ever, while he won 7 majors he never won the french or aussie open, for me to be classed as an all time great you have to prove yourself on all surfaces. in fairness his display in the 1984 wimbledon final against chris lewis was as naer as perfection as you can get.

It actually wasn't Lewis that McEnroe beat in the '84 final, it was Jimmy Connors. And yes, most experts agree that it was as close to perfection as anyone has come on a tennis court.
