Having spoken to a referee as coach of a team this season regarding the square ball rule, he told me that the ball must enter the square before the player. If a player is in the square before the ball then it is square ball.

haroldbishop, you need not worry about moonshine i am still here, but i have been to busy training at the moment to be coming on here making mad predictions like yourself about winning everything.
Didnt see the game between yourselves & barnabus but from what i have heard you were well beaten,no need to be making excuses about square balls. You probarely under estimated your opposition like you always do & it cost you.
As for Macs we wont be doing that, barnabus are a good strong side as we know having already lost to them in the league this year. But c`ship is a different game & hopefully we will turn that result around on sunday.
As regards the RC game was supposed to have been played last saturday evening & apparently RC couldnt field,so as far as i no the game is to be rescheucled.

Square ball is a very simple rule.

A player may enter the square before the ball is played in. this is not a square ball unless,
1 he makes contact with the ball being played in or

2 he interferes with play.

However if the ball comes back off the woodwork or any defending player he can play the ball and the score is legal.
Rules of Foul Play

RULE 4 - TECHNICAL FOULS
4.1 To overcarry or overhold the ball.
4.2 (a) To throw the ball.
(b) To handpass the ball without a definite striking
action.
4.3 To lift the ball off the ground with the knees.
4.4 To lie on the ball.
4.5 To touch the ball on the ground with the
hand(s), except as provided in Rule 1.2.
4.6 To bounce the ball more than once
consecutively after catching it.
4.7 To play the ball up with the hand(s) and catch
it again before it touches the ground, another
player, or goal-posts.
4.8 To wrest the ball from an opponent who has
caught the ball.
4.9 For an attacking player to enter opponents'
small rectangle before the ball enters it during
play.
Exception
(i) If an attacking player legally enters the
small rectangle, and the ball is played
from that area but is returned before the
attacking player has time to leave the
area, provided he does not play the ball
or interfere with the defence, a foul is not
committed.

millbrook, spot on with the square ball rule. Tried to explain this to a referee in an u18 game between Macs & FM a couple of weeks ago where he disallowed the goal after the ball coming back off a FM defender was put into the net by a Macs forward. The game finished in a draw when it should have been a Macs win. If the referees dont understand the rule what chance have we got ????
To many people sprouting off about this rule & that rule when they really dont understand them.

Moonshine. The Casements game I believe was fixed for Tuesday. What makes you think they would fix a league game the night before a championship match!!? If you failed to turn up you should sacrifice the points

Yeh Millbrook did you eat that rule book for dinner?
Suppose you could tell us how much the fine would be if teams dont wear uniform colour shorts and socks in a championship game aswell???

Anyway enough banter any predictions for the weekend?

Firstly, all players should know the square ball rule, it's one of the basics and not really hard to understand! I will admit that the reffering and spotting is more difficult as you rely on umpires agreeing which sadly means one teams officially against the others,so inheritently the ref decides after watching a high 30/40 yrd ball falling 'in the square' and noting the players positions.

Just to also tidy up the Macs and Casements game. It was the week before the Championship for a start. Casements asked for the Saturday game to be arranged and fair pay Macs agreed. Game rescheduled for the Tuesday night, Macs asked for it to be rescheduled. Game still to be played as far as I know.

Macs should give Casements the points as a matter of principle. This is not the first tie they have declined to field a team and faced no reprecussions

haroldbishop, why should we give up the points ???? do you not bother reading earlier posts before you start babbling your nonsense on hear. By the way how games was it that your club failed to feild for last year ??? 5 or 6 at aguess

Last year was admittedly a disaster and we duly accepted our punishment for not fielding. Were your representatives in Ireland trying to recruit new players perhaps?

haroldbishop, what punishment did you recieve last year ???? The county board didnt fine your club or anything as far as i am aware.
As regards new recruits,we are always looking to sign new players junior or senior standard, it can only improve our club with competion for places,i dont see anything wrong with that. Maybe your own club could do with some new blood and you may start to improve your performances.
Was it not you or another person from your club who posted on here early in the year about winning the c`ship & wiping the floor with everybody, i am sure it was.

looks like moonshine has been upset.. getting a wee bit worried about Sunday by any chance??
But if so, you should beat EGB next week. That will leave you a few more weeks to fly some other lads in for the semi!! wink wink...
We will still beat yas in the semi tho, no probs!!

I attended the intermediate championship match between Mitchels and Naomh Padraig on Saturday evening at PNH. It was a fantastic display from both sides. Leicester edged the first half and went in 4 points to the good eventually losing out by 2 points as they seemed to run out of gas in the 2nd half. Some of the decisions the referee made were absoulutely atrocious for both sides. I can't remember the guys name but he just wasn't consistent with his decisions, he showed the book to as many players as he could for nothing fouls and back chat that wasn't abusive just constructive. To the neutral spectator you would have hardly known if it was a senior fixture or a intermediate fixture as the level of play, determination and ability was there for all to see. Compared to the first encounter Mitchells had against Leicester at the start of the season it was a cpmpletely different team that turned up on saturday, i personally think mitchels expected a walk in the park but they will certainly know they were in a game on saturday! Fantastic spectacle, well worth the waiting around for the ref to turn up.
