Its not the managers fault that some of the so-called better players in the county have no interest in playing. its a pity really as Warks could potentially be pretty strong at this level

I cant beleive that there was only 16 players at this is fixture , i bet if it was played in Birmingham there would have been 26 players available

Well Ireland 80, thank you for your concern, as far as i know out the 3 Marys lads called onto the panel who could attend this week when the panel was announced 2 were injured, 1 in the trial game on Thursday night against Mitchells, both lads were hoping to recover but didnt, another lad had to return to Ireland this weekend at short notice.

All 3 lads are part of the Warwickshire panel and were dissapointed they could not make it this week. the lads probably attended all the trial games etc last year and if they are able will be there next weekend for the game against Hertforshire.

Not really sure what the issue is to be honest, the game will be rearranged Ireland 80 no points have been lost?? We are happy to play you but surely with lads on a county panel no team should be playing club games, would you expect to play senior club games with your players missing??
I know last year our champ game against yourselves was rearranged about 5 times to accommodate Mitchells with your senior team/hurling team/county hurlers even a christening if memory serves me having priority which meant we ended up playing on a Saturday evening weeks later than what was originally scheduled?

St Marys have complained to the County Board 'about lack of games' this complaint was based upon teams just telling us on a sunday morning when they didnt have enough players to field, you were told Friday that the game was to be rescheduled and we had a valid reason, if you dont agree, speak to the County Secretary about the ruling........

Thought i'd have a crack at what our county team should/could look like, let me know what ya think or better yet have a go yourselves.
1. D Tiernan MACS
2. M Guingan RC
3. C O'Riorden MACS
4. K Boxwell EGB
5. J Daly STB
6. J McGlade MACS
7. S Friel STB
8. P Bradley EGB
9. J Murphy JM
10. D Harkin FM
11. J Mulcahy EGB
12. M Bergin RC
13. M French STB
14. J Looney JM
15. M Kelleher JM

Now i know i have left out some great players in Ossie Bennet and Joey Dowling but i think its probably now time to let new lads step up with both of these lads pushing 40. They have served the county well over the years and could still do a job but i think it time to move on.
My knowledge of football in Coventry wouldn't be the best so there are probably lads at FM and RC that should also be pushing for a place on the team.
There are also other big names which i have left of such as the two Haydens, Harrigan, Hanlon, Higgins but i was stuggling to fit them in which shows the talent we have in the county if we can get all the lads out.

Mick83 - I like your thinking although I would suggest the Casements keeper Fallon is the best around especially one-on-one saves. I'd also question Guinan at corner back, solid and strong at full back but lacks the pace to play corner back, if you;ve watched the games so far Casements have a very strong back line and I'd name a few who would challenge.

In terms of the forward line you have missed out a few but it's always difficult, although maybe Hayden would be in the starting line up and Dougie from EGB?

We've said it on here for years that it's a shame that these guys either don't turn out or travel because it would certianly be the making of a solid team.

Mick83 - Typical mitchels man, hasnt a clue about football.

1. D Tiernan MACS
2. Dooley
3. S Friel STB
4. Hanlon
5. J Daly STB
6. J McGlade MACS
7. S Friel STB
8. Bennett
9. J Murphy JM
10. D Harkin FM
11. Hayden
12. M Bergin RC
13. M French STB
14. Dowling
15. Hayden

Yes Bennett and Dowling were great players, but in terms of the county there is still no better about. How can you put 3 mitchels men in the team when they havent won a serious game in about 10 years? No Haydens these are the guys that run a muck anytime it takes there fancy in the big games? EGB midfielder Bradley? Placing slow players in the corner back positions isn't a great idea either, Ian Dooley, Eamon Hanlon? I do agree with leaving out Hazza and Higgins both very overrated.

Lads, every county in Britain could name a panel of players that would look very impressive on paper! The difficulty is getting those players onto the pitch on the day of amatch. I believe this inter county competition should be promoted to give it a higher profile as its the only representative football availabe to players outside of London - perhaps a University Sigerson Cup style long weekend which is hosted by a different county each year - at least then the players and management would know the exact dates they are needed and can prepare accordingly. If someone is on holidays or what ever - they will know straight away and the manager can plan with out them. Also it would be a bit of craic!!

Macsforfive, is Higgins a half back? If its the guy im thinking about he is quick and strong on the ball but distribution isnt great. Would not play Dooley or hanlon corner back. There's better forwards than C Hayden up top and thing M Hayden should be moved to centre half. We are all biased for the clubs we are involved in although we need to be realistic in the team.

Regarding the County team, it would be hard to get any two people to come up with the same 15, but there would definatley be more of the Macs forwards in it than mick83 proposes. However at this stage of the season there should be a definate panel of 30 or so players specifically chosen, that are training together with the intent of winning the All Britain instead of this who ever turns up mentality and trial games. It would be then up to the selected players to turn up to designated training sessiosn with the final 15 picked off the back of these.
Backs. Dooley, McGlade(Macs) T Foley, J Foley, K Boxwell( EGB) Friel, Daly, Regan, (stB) + couple from JM, Guignan, G Farrell(RC) J Harkin(FM)
Midfield: Willis (StM) 2 EGB, Bennett (Macs) M Hayden (Macs) Crowley (stF)
Forwards: C Hayden, Jo Dowling, Hanlon (macs), Dougie and Hazza ( E.G.B) J lo and Kerry fella( JM) French(stB) D Harkin(FM) Bergin (RC)

Would be a good start, there are 29 players there and i've probably missed out one or two others who would be close, no doubt people will fill me in, plus two keepers - Lynam is man in possesion from last year, not much between any others, would be decided on commitment.

Shows how much some people watch the game in this county. Crowley is a soccer player, not a gaelic footballer. Paul Friel at EGB is very good player and should be one of the first names on the teamsheet, as should Michael Hayden. Morgan at Barnabas is one of the best backs in the county, yet Mel Guinan and Kieran Boxwell, have been selected ahead of him. Ossie Bennett should be in everyone's side, age is irrelevant if you can still cut the mustard; he most certainly can.

That being said, its all a pretty irrelevant discussion; very few give a toss about the provincials as evidenced by the paltry 16 players who turned out on Sunday.

the warckshire team was a shambles last year when players wernt even recognised even when they where senior players, the manager has been hardly seen at any senior matches, more players from casements, macs, and egb definately need to be involved, i would like to know who the better players than harrington, higgins, and two haydens are?

That county team would hardly win a Warks championship. The manager needs to make a few calls me thinks

Mel submit another team with your name in it!

Did you even get close to dowling last year in the championship?

JJ Harkin no chance would rather have langford.

1 EGB keeper, 3 EGB Backs, 2 EGB midfielders, 2 EGB forwards when will people realise that if EGB did have all these great players they wouldn't be getting hammered like they did last year on there own patch against 14 men by 7 points by a team who some people on this site have only submitted 2 players for the county scene. You are deluded guys, firstly put macs first 15 down and then try and add maybe 5-6 players from the other clubs then you'd have a decent side.

I think if you look at the teams at the moment I would have in a squad of 30, roughly:
8 Macs
7 Barnabas
6 EGB
4 Mitchells
3 Casements
2 Four Masters

Macsforfive, I think it's you who is deluded. There are certainly better players around this county than Macs Champ team of last year. Its like saying the All-Stars is made up of the All-Ireland winning team with a few players shoe-horned in for good measure. All you seem concerned about is naming yourself and your mates on a county football panel whilst bemoaning the fact other people have brains and watch the other teams. The rest of the county aren't so self-indulgent as to thing their own teams are the starting 15.

Any games for this weekend?
