Its not the managers fault that some of the so-called better players in the county have no interest in playing. its a pity really as Warks could potentially be pretty strong at this level Lethal (Derry) - Posts: 281 - 14/06/2010 15:33:04 676895 Link 0 |
I cant beleive that there was only 16 players at this is fixture , i bet if it was played in Birmingham there would have been 26 players available knowle (Roscommon) - Posts: 82 - 14/06/2010 15:50:24 676915 Link 0 |
Well Ireland 80, thank you for your concern, as far as i know out the 3 Marys lads called onto the panel who could attend this week when the panel was announced 2 were injured, 1 in the trial game on Thursday night against Mitchells, both lads were hoping to recover but didnt, another lad had to return to Ireland this weekend at short notice. blackandwhite (UK) - Posts: 64 - 14/06/2010 16:14:19 676956 Link 0 |

Thought i'd have a crack at what our county team should/could look like, let me know what ya think or better yet have a go yourselves. Mick83 (Wicklow) - Posts: 67 - 14/06/2010 21:34:29 677538 Link 0 |
Mick83 - I like your thinking although I would suggest the Casements keeper Fallon is the best around especially one-on-one saves. I'd also question Guinan at corner back, solid and strong at full back but lacks the pace to play corner back, if you;ve watched the games so far Casements have a very strong back line and I'd name a few who would challenge. thesilentone (UK) - Posts: 146 - 15/06/2010 08:39:31 677611 Link 0 |
Mick83 - Typical mitchels man, hasnt a clue about football. macsforfive (Tipperary) - Posts: 164 - 15/06/2010 10:02:10 677684 Link 0 |
Lads, every county in Britain could name a panel of players that would look very impressive on paper! The difficulty is getting those players onto the pitch on the day of amatch. I believe this inter county competition should be promoted to give it a higher profile as its the only representative football availabe to players outside of London - perhaps a University Sigerson Cup style long weekend which is hosted by a different county each year - at least then the players and management would know the exact dates they are needed and can prepare accordingly. If someone is on holidays or what ever - they will know straight away and the manager can plan with out them. Also it would be a bit of craic!! Macsforfive, is Higgins a half back? If its the guy im thinking about he is quick and strong on the ball but distribution isnt great. Would not play Dooley or hanlon corner back. There's better forwards than C Hayden up top and thing M Hayden should be moved to centre half. We are all biased for the clubs we are involved in although we need to be realistic in the team. thesilentone (UK) - Posts: 146 - 15/06/2010 11:08:18 677768 Link 0 |
Regarding the County team, it would be hard to get any two people to come up with the same 15, but there would definatley be more of the Macs forwards in it than mick83 proposes. However at this stage of the season there should be a definate panel of 30 or so players specifically chosen, that are training together with the intent of winning the All Britain instead of this who ever turns up mentality and trial games. It would be then up to the selected players to turn up to designated training sessiosn with the final 15 picked off the back of these. Shows how much some people watch the game in this county. Crowley is a soccer player, not a gaelic footballer. Paul Friel at EGB is very good player and should be one of the first names on the teamsheet, as should Michael Hayden. Morgan at Barnabas is one of the best backs in the county, yet Mel Guinan and Kieran Boxwell, have been selected ahead of him. Ossie Bennett should be in everyone's side, age is irrelevant if you can still cut the mustard; he most certainly can. intheno (UK) - Posts: 207 - 15/06/2010 11:42:26 677814 Link 0 |
the warckshire team was a shambles last year when players wernt even recognised even when they where senior players, the manager has been hardly seen at any senior matches, more players from casements, macs, and egb definately need to be involved, i would like to know who the better players than harrington, higgins, and two haydens are? gael909 (Meath) - Posts: 2 - 15/06/2010 12:51:44 677916 Link 0 |
That county team would hardly win a Warks championship. The manager needs to make a few calls me thinks Tiddleywink (UK) - Posts: 11 - 15/06/2010 14:14:10 678008 Link 0 |

I think if you look at the teams at the moment I would have in a squad of 30, roughly: intheno (UK) - Posts: 207 - 16/06/2010 12:43:45 678987 Link 0 |
intheno. Who are your six EGB: Foleys, Dougie, hazza, Friel and the bull? haroldbishop (UK) - Posts: 46 - 16/06/2010 12:55:15 679008 Link 0 |
Macsforfive, I think it's you who is deluded. There are certainly better players around this county than Macs Champ team of last year. Its like saying the All-Stars is made up of the All-Ireland winning team with a few players shoe-horned in for good measure. All you seem concerned about is naming yourself and your mates on a county football panel whilst bemoaning the fact other people have brains and watch the other teams. The rest of the county aren't so self-indulgent as to thing their own teams are the starting 15. thesilentone (UK) - Posts: 146 - 16/06/2010 13:27:12 679050 Link 0 |
