Funny how its only Tyrone posters who seem to be against the mark. Annoyed that this tactic of swarming the catcher isnt going to work anymore. jafallon (Galway) - Posts: 489 - 27/01/2010 09:04:59 543601 Link 0 |

ja fallon, ciarrai abu andcolin wex...have you been to any of the matches yet?...the mark does not enablemore open play...already teams have learned to funnellplayers back when a player catches the ball,so that the kicker then has no-one to kick to, and there is no spare man available..the result is an aimless punt upfield...and boys listen tyrone does not depend on a swarm around midfield...their ability to winning breaking ball is what stands out in their play, and when tyrone catch the ball at midfield as they often do,our players are skilled enough to fin a spare man or work their way free, which enables the team to retain posession, and move the ballforward quickly...tyromemen are against it because it stops our free flowing football...maybe thats why you're all against it.. mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1821 - 27/01/2010 15:47:34 544024 Link 0 |

The mark is a great idea and I think 90% of posters would agree with that. diablodeKingdom (Kerry) - Posts: 210 - 03/02/2010 14:56:39 550432 Link 0 |

In the couple of games i have seen the mark only seems to be given if the ball is fielded over a players head, is that the rule or is it just the refs interpretation dhorse (Laois) - Posts: 11374 - 08/02/2010 14:41:00 555072 Link 0 |

have to say i like it. It encourages high fielding and also adds a new aspect to thye game, of the player rushing to the ball before it bounces. Fergal doc slid in on his knees to catch a ball about a foot from the ground on saturday, which is a skill in itself. Derry_ledd (Derry) - Posts: 2093 - 08/02/2010 14:42:09 555073 Link 0 |

It was explained properly on Sunday Sport last night and I think it makes sense the way they are doing it. Coylers Elbow (Meath) - Posts: 1075 - 08/02/2010 15:34:42 555140 Link 0 |

Agree Omagh Redhand that it does not seem to seem to increase the amount of high catches. In fact i think sometimes it played against derry who were not expecting the balls to be broken and tyrone were there to pick up the breaks. Horse, I don't think so, as Doherty's catch was after he slid around 3-4 foot and caught the ball before it hit the ground. Brilliantly done. omaghredhand (Tyrone) - Posts: 3656 - 09/02/2010 13:48:22 556181 Link 0 |

The mark won't increase the amount of high fielding at all. It's very evident even so far that "big" men are being targetted whereby there's an even greater attempt to break the ball away. Good keepers are also beginning to find wingbacks with relatively low kicks into space: not the original intention of the traditionalists, I assume. football first (None) - Posts: 1259 - 09/02/2010 13:53:54 556189 Link 0 |
