Seven Players Red Carded

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Assuming they were justified, and if we know Laois V Kildare matches then they probably were, it's good to see one referee, at least, getting tough on foul play. Let's hope we see more of this from referees this year and years to some, and a stamping out of foul and unfair play (including the feigning of injury) in our games. Although by the time the CCCCCCCC and CDGFCRCSFA get their hands on it and confirm, overturn, confirm and then finally overturn and the apologists come out with the usual verse of '...sure isn't it a man's game...' it will all have been for nothing and that poor referee will never get another inter-county match!! But it's a start...

There is real spite between these 2. They play eachother 3 times a year which doesn't help. When we thumped them 2-18 to 0-9 last June it wasn't enough. We really bayed for blood. I really don't like Laois. Dermot Early was on the ground getting thumped. Disgraceful assault.

I didn't actually know who we were to get in the semi. But it's just a warm up tournament and win, lose or draw it won't mean anything come the end of May (or end of August in your case).

Just nice to be in a semi at this time of year and hope we can build on this run in the league and finally get out of what will be a very tough Div 3.

Referees get very officious at this time every year and then ease off as the year progresses.... weren't there a lot of cards in London too?

The seven players sent off was justified though you could argue that more should have gone. The fight that broke out had at least 24 players in it, all throwing punches and some kicks, so how the ref and his assistants decided the three Laois players and the two Kildare where the worst is beyond me. The players who actually started the fight got away with it as well.

Daith not sure what your talking about really, the only time i saw Dermot Early on the ground with anyone was with Booth in the second half, a scuffle that lasted two min, most of it with the players holding each other and trying to be dragged apart and finished with Booth being sent off with blood coming from his mouth and Early jogging back to midfield without so much as a dirty look from the ref. Not saying Booth didn't deserve to go but since Early was not hurt there and nobody needed treatment or was bleeding after the first fight, I'm not sure where the 'disgraceful assault' on Early happened.

It's a very sad and increasing side of the game that this is very much a tactic used to 'sort out' the opposition and to get the edge.

I think it's irrelevant which player threw the first punch as it is obviously a tactic being installed in players by managers. The management team are the ones who should be facing disciplinary action.

You see I thought a man's game was fielding high balls, kickiong good scroes, giving and taking a shoulder and hard tackles, falling down, getting up and getting on with it.

Any coward can throw a kick or punch in a melee!

"Geezers Steel" as you call it won't be of much benefit if there are no players left on the pitch!!!

Geezer as ye call him has turned Kildare into the poor mans Armagh. They wont win anything this year because they have no forwards, apart from Doyle. They came to Portlaoise with the intention of bullying Laois but Laois wont roll over for anyone.

You have a very short memory. They rolled over to Kildare last year when they were beaten by 14/15 points.

Since mcgeedy came to kildare there has been a improvement no doubt, and were worthy winners over laois in tullamore. But he's now came to portlaoise a few times with the kildare team dirty as hell with laois. ANYONE IN THE COUNTRY WHO KNOW'S LAOIS KNOW'S WERE NOT A PHYSICAL SIDE! Were known for our lack of size. Today kildare attempted the same thing but didn get away with it as they'd hoped! Laois played most of the game with two men less than kildare had an experimental side and only lost by 3 points against the supposed leinster number 2 (after one good year!) I'll look forward to the league match. Perhaps geezer will decide to let his team play the football there capable of.

Players are very indisciplined at this time of year.A lot of new guys to the scene who are determined not to be found out one way or another and they will punch and box the jaw off someone to try and get the ball off him. Also experienced players are at their most unfit state at this time of year and do exactly what the inexperienced guys do above.I know for a fact that ref's dread these early season games.

lads lads lads. was at the match and the strangest thing about the result or the 7 sendings off or the off the ball incidents was john doyle getting sent off. in all fairness out of the 30 players he is the cleanist player and at best defended himself. the ref really went to make a name for himself.
