How far can the Meath minors go this year ?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

yea surely they could of had davy dalton in place by the u17s in the autumn and he could have had a serious look at some players then at some matches..i know rooney is a selector and he knows most players but davy is the main man and he has to know the players...but no we are in meath...we will just be unorganised and not take it as serious as other counties...i know exactly how the kildare players are picked and how the trials are run..far more proffesinal and better run than ours...on our minor team players who the management think are good will be picked...not players who they know are good...thats why meath will not be challenging for honours either in the ulster league or the championship

I read an article in a match programme that stressed how wildy players development can vary as they grow, citing that no team that won the Tony Forristal (inter county U14) in hurling went on to win the minor championship 4 years later.

heard SEVEN players from ratoath got on the panel...definitely huge bias been shown by the management team considering one of the selectors are from ratoath...i know there 1st or 2nd best minor team in the county but seriously 7 players!!3 or 4 at most would be about right id say...cian o brien, bobby o brien, paddy haslam,mcgill....there the only intercounty standard players at ratoath...that means we could be missing out on 3 to 4 players who are better than some of these players picked...like do we actually want to win a leinster or just show favouritism to certain players for certain reasons and get hammered by a team with the right attitude

proevo, if ratoath are the 1st or 2nd best club minor team in the county like you say then surely 7 players on the panel is not excessive. The fact that one of the selectors is from Ratoath is irrelevant, given the underage success rate at Ratoath having 7 players on the panel is not suprising.

im comparing it to the last few years lads....don/ash dominated minor for the last few years and they never had 7 players on the panel in any of them years

No cian o'brien? I think that goalkeeper is very good watched him in the vec game and he pulled of some super saves(although his kickouts weren't great). I'd say Conor McGill is deserving of a starting place and is at least on par with Doyle if not better. But still that team looks very strong.

well who would you replace with cian o brien? i have left alot of good players out but i think that 15 are the best which makes for a very good sqaud aswell

Jesus proevo will you stop whingin. Any panel picked in February will have to be cut again before the championship and rest assured there won't be anything like 7 Ratoath lads on it by then. It's a process used throughout Ireland for picking your best panel in Springtime.

Your point regarding Donaghmore is very interesting also. Barring injury Sean Curran, Ciaran Ellis, Brian Menton, John Brodrick , David Morgan and Andrew Tormey should all make this years U21 panel. I can't think why any of them shouldn't either.

If Conor McGill get the Dunshaughlin CC and Meath VEC fullback jersey ahead of Doyle what's going to change between now and the Summer to say Doyle will suddenly become better suited?

Lads, as long as the team does well and represents the county, should we be not happy? Lets get behind them and not argue over who is the best player for their club and so on. Hopefully they go a long way come championship. Meath football need as much good youth coming through as possible, and negatitve comments here are damaging to young lads development as individuals and footballers. After all, are we all not Meath folk and wanting ALL our county teams to do the best they can!

There are some good minors in the county who are not on the panel, I have to assume it is because of injuries ( seven from one club seems a bit excessive condidering that there are 70 plus clubs). The guy who normally plays full back for St Pats (who is injured) is better than most of the backs that played on last years minor team. Most of the minors (if not all) that are there from last year are average players and to say that they are brillinat says more about the contributors making these statement. I think that the guys in charge of the minors have went about their task the correct way by ringing around the clubs (unlike the last two years) and I expect them do a decent job and I wish them the best of luck. Generally I'm not a fan of this type of trials (at any level) as you would require many many trials to discover the best players.

the meath minor panel has been a joke for the last 3 years even tho they won a leinster in 2008 with a quite poor midfield the panel was without good team players like paul lyness jack grant, ben malone and in 2009 leaving eoin hegarty and fiachra ross(i think)who is playin out of his skin for pats out was a bit of a joke and this year danny thyne has missed the cut just what are these mentors looking for

ratoath deserve 2 have 7 players on the team because the 7 players are good enough to be on it simple as ... also ashbourne have 2 players that have made the cut... this years team is very poor considering last 3 or 4 yrs...
