inbetweener, your knowledge of underage football in Drogheda is very limited. Dean Byrne and Ben Rogan transfered to the Raghs without objection from their clubs. The Rogan family is involved in the Raghs over many years so perhaps the question should be- how was he ever a Plunketts player? It is well known that the Plunketts had approached Byrne to transfer to them, he choose the Raghs, freedom of choice? What do you mean " Raghs have very few players coming through", the Raghs had 26 players available for u21 football in 2009,their minor team were beaten in the championship final by Dundalk Gaels and they beat Pats in the semi final- all but 1 player were with the Raghs at under age. There is an excellent underage structure in place at the Raghs and this is despite the annual poaching of players from their area to other clubs. If the county board and Drogheda minor board had implemented tough rules( in past decades) on players only playing with the club in their district, I think it is safe to say that the Raghs would have had many successful seasons. gpa.no.way (Louth) - Posts: 104 - 21/01/2010 19:21:07 539340 Link 0 |
I don't think GPA No Way is right there. Rogan was objected to by Plunketts and they have been giving out about this move a lot. I was talking to a few of them and they are not happy at all because Rogan's younger brother Joe was also transferred despite an objection last year. Anyway when you talk of championship finals please refer to the divisions. O'Rats must be division 3 or 4 and they have had a terrible underage structure and teams since Colin Kelly played for them as a juvenile footballman (Louth) - Posts: 126 - 21/01/2010 21:22:04 539515 Link 0 |
football man your wrong about ben rogan . he wanted to leave last year ,so they promised him a transfer if he played the season. he met with the new management with plunketts this year but still decided to move and was thanked for his service to the club. at the transfer meeting he met the plunkets representive and they wished him all the best. so there was no objection. its just the way it is with town teams. people move here there and everywere. its always been this way. (CHECK FACTS ABOUT PAST TRANSFER OF ALL TOWN TEAMS), a lot of it has to do with who the persons friends are or who they play soccer with. do i agree with it, NO. but thats the way it is. and please dont have a go at any clubs underage set up... its the core of football ..and ive nothing but the highest regard for the the people involved.everyone trys there best. drogheda20 (Louth) - Posts: 405 - 22/01/2010 08:18:54 539595 Link 0 |
Gpa.no.way -- when you are referring to districts please outline O'Ragh's district? Itsme (Louth) - Posts: 402 - 22/01/2010 12:00:06 539826 Link 0 |
football man your reference about Colin Kelly explained the difficulties faced by the Raghs juvenile set up better than I could explain it. I dont think it is relevant what league or division a juvenile team plays at, they are assased by Minor board. It was C championship final and in the semi final the Raghs beat the Pats minors and in the Q/final Raghs beat the Nicks away. However, I would ask you , as Louth play in Div3 of the NFL, does this mean that Louth players, Louth supporters and Louth football is not as important to Gaeilge games as County Kerry, County Tyrone etc ? gpa.no.way (Louth) - Posts: 104 - 22/01/2010 13:46:57 539959 Link 0 |
I feel the BIG TRABSFER is that of Niall Moynagh from the Westerns to Hunterstown rovers. 2faced (Louth) - Posts: 405 - 22/01/2010 15:07:35 540022 Link 0 |
I'm not belittling the efforts of teams in divisions 3 and 4, but don't make it sound like your competing at the highest level. There is a serious difference in quality between these divisions. Rogan was objected to and thats a fact. They may have wished him the best and thats as it should be, but that doesn't change the facts that he benefitted from playing at a higher level with the Plunketts underage. I also hear that two O'Raghallaigh's juveniles were refused transfers to the Plunketts by the Minor Board. Is there fairness there. Have to agree with our Westmeath contributor, the amount of transfers is ridiculous and you certainly shouldn't be transferred because you play soccer with a certain team footballman (Louth) - Posts: 126 - 23/01/2010 11:10:56 540477 Link 0 |
i never said you should get a transfer if u play with a certain club. what im saying is they have friends there that they end up wanting to play gaa with. loyalty at a young age means not much to certain lads. but ur right there is far to many transfers , but what happens is people just wont play football for a year and transfer will go through then. suppose if a lad wants to leave you might as well let him go. we could talk and disagree about this all day , so im going to leave it at that. drogheda20 (Louth) - Posts: 405 - 23/01/2010 12:29:02 540513 Link 0 |

inbetweener & football man leave off this club. Its been the same across every club in this county. As far as i know the 2 players objected to by the O'raghallaighs to go to the plunketts was because of a passionate plea by the club delegate at the first committee meeting in which the top table voted to on mass to allow the transfers go through only for the other club delegates to agree with the club delegate. Also why were these two ruled out of order, trying to go back to a club they played all juvenile fottball with. 58. Owen Armstrong Dowdallshill St. Patricks *** Out of Order 59. Neil Armstrong Dowdallshill St. Patricks *** Out of Order These two here, I thought there was an embargo on players leaving the tones as they thought club was going out of existence a few years ago. 54. Conor Murtagh Wolfe Tones St. Nicholas Sanctioned 55. Gareth Ryan Wolfe Tones St. Nicholas Sanctioned These two here, they'll be doing the same with the westerns. also as long as they keep amalgamating at underage they'll never be a club on their own. 52. Clint Sweeney Westerns Glyde Rangers Sanctioned 53. Niall Moynagh Westerns Hunterstown Rovers Sanctioned Half these guys live in middle of cooley and played all underage with them, however they obviously are not getting games, so they're moving to a new club to improve it and keep playing football. All of these should have been granted. 5. Eoin Mc Donnell Cooley Kickhams Cuchulainn Gaels Sanctioned 6. Patrick Sheelan Cooley Kickhams Cuchulainn Gaels Refused 7. Gavin Mullen Cooley Kickhams Cuchulainn Gaels Refused 8. Lee Mc Closkey Cooley Kickhams Cuchulainn Gaels Sanctioned 9. Jonathan Malone Cooley Kickhams Cuchulainn Gaels Sanctioned LouthCountyMan (Louth) - Posts: 117 - 25/01/2010 13:42:59 541749 Link 0 |
LouthCountyMan you can't have it everyway. Either all transfers should have been refused or all passed between these two clubs, but its crazy to think its fair to deplete one clubs resources and not give back. A Passionate Plea at county board, C'mon! footballman (Louth) - Posts: 126 - 25/01/2010 17:09:23 542065 Link 0 |
Yes but according to delegate these 2 kids played all football with juvenile are were only going to plunketts to win something. These 2 are the O'raghallaighs best players in their age group. Its about time the poaching of good players from average teams to strenghten already decent sides stops. LouthCountyMan (Louth) - Posts: 117 - 25/01/2010 17:24:24 542091 Link 0 |

I heard from a reliable source that a young Glyde player has transferred to Kilmacud Crokes. He has played at all underage levels for Louth and in my opinion he will be on the Louth senior panel in a couple of years. He has decided to transfer as he is at college in DCU and he is living in Dublin. He has gained huge experience from marking Michael Murphy in training and he recently held him to 3 goals and 12 points in training and this might seem bad but Murphy kicked 2 goals and 9 points against Tyrone. Best of luck 2faced (Louth) - Posts: 405 - 26/01/2010 11:15:06 542637 Link 0 |
who is this young glyde player. would be a huge loss to lose a player of such calibre if what your saying is true!!! mc.g (Louth) - Posts: 26 - 26/01/2010 13:00:02 542759 Link 0 |
Ref Mc G It shouldnt be to hard to work out the glyde player as not to many from there have been on all the louth underage teams. One or two only come to mind fullmonty (Louth) - Posts: 22 - 26/01/2010 14:02:47 542839 Link 0 |
OK LouthCountyMan. We'll take it that you think its ok to poach adult players to your club but when it comes to someone trying to leave its all wrong. Thats logical and fair. footballman (Louth) - Posts: 126 - 27/01/2010 09:59:18 543629 Link 0 |
Footballman should show some respect because the Glyde player has massive potential. Michael Murphy is a great footballer and I would like to see you mark him plus Murphy is a huge man. He is 6 foot 8 and weighs 18 stone. 2faced (Louth) - Posts: 405 - 27/01/2010 11:14:44 543707 Link 0 |
