I suspect the number 8 in the photo above could be in serious trouble with the authorities.

Alas Irish league soccer is always like this, and the highlights on the Saturday evening sport's programme seem to concentrate on mass punch ups.

Still, it is nice to see that the BBC are balanced, as they sometimes report on violence at GAA and Rugby games as well.

Now, now Patrique. You know full well that there is no violence in Rugby. It is a game played by gentlemen.

On a serious note though the photos from that game are fairly bad. Was there a sectarian element to this or do they have history or what?

It appears that my initial comment may have been somewhat libellous therefore not printed. I will try and rephrase. If someone, hypothetically speaking you understand, kicked someone in the head during a fracas outside a pub, they would and should be charged with murder, but at the very least GBH.

The above I think is Ulster Scots.

I think it means that on the same day in West Belfast Donegal Celtic played Linfield without any trouble whatsoever.

The link saves Dell issuing a denial.

The Liam Watson mentioned in the commentary is the best HURLER in Ulster.

The BBC pictures don't look good in fact some of them appear quite vicious and dangerous. This isn't football it's thuggery and is something that happens more than is admitted in our sports. I know for a fact that the Antrim soccer leagues particularly at the lower levels are a disgrace at times and certain players and teams seem to think that they can get away with anything. There is no doubt that officials are often intimidated by some teams. We also see it in Gaelic football and hurling and we can certainly not hold any higher moral ground.

It is a class photo, and does require serious action.

A life time ban, to run for at least 50 years looks good.

The no. 8 should get jail for that. There shouldn't be a difference from the streets and a sport field and if he was caught doing that on the street he'd get jail.

It gets worse. In all seriousness these actions are the inevitable result of famous managers attacking referees and getting away with it. The like of Sam Allardyce, Mark Hughes, Fergie, Benitez and others must take some of the blame for the culture that is now in sport, where it IS a matter of life or death and the SPORT has gone out of it.

Obviously the managers are not to blame for the thuggery, but the ethos of protest against every decision does not help.

i'm going to reiterate some of dells sentiments: Lifetime Ban. The number 8 made some winde at the lad on the ground, I wonder did he connect? It would have taken the head of him. Probably need to see the video. They're bound to get into some bother over this

Another example of the bias towards the GAA.
As was already said no moral high ground to be taken
but the coverage that this incident got compared to incidents in the GAA.
Every soccer game has a TV camera at them and all that was shown was a few pictures.
If it was a GAA game there would have been replays, slow motion, some (i am better than the rest of yous) person in the studio, etc.
It is another example of the media dictating how we are to percieve things.

Something similiar to the Robinson scandal.
Poor Iris or poor Peter, depending on which paper you lift.

As patrique has already said, i'm glad that the BBC and UTV have actually reported on this incident.

Just one question though. Does anyone else find it suspicious that there is no actual video footage of the game and only photos? Maybe I am being paranoid but if this was a GAA club championship game, I would imagine live footage would somehow be available to the local media.
