Far to many names being thrown out here. Players playing now who I consider to be amongst the Legends?

Tommy Walsh
Henry Shefflin

I think that JJ Delaney will be remembered as a Great player not a Legend, although I'd rate him as high as Tommy.

Greats are
JJ,
Curran,
Browne,
McGrath
Canning (Ollie obviously)
Cummins
Fitzhenry.

I think Noel McGrath has the capabilities to be better than Joe Canning, he's got more skills from play, not as strong but faster, and movement off the ball.

Some people are being very liberal with the word legend. Liam, I'd agree with you that the likes of Whelan and Jayo won't be considered legends, Whelan in particular failed too often in key games and has no All-Ireland medal. Not really the stuff of legend. But you then included Damien Fitzhenry in your legend category? Why? Seems a bit of a random inclusion to me. I mean why not Brendan Cummins since he and Damien Fitz have been the best goalkeepers in the country over the past 10-12 years, and both have won one AI?

To me a 'legend' is a player that stood out as one of the very very best of his era, who'd be an automatic choice on a 'team of the decade' type of thing, a player that took games by the neck and won them nearly single-handedly, a player with the man of the match awards and the All-Ireland medals and the all-stars to prove it. Maybe 10 players per decade would fall into that category.

From the past decade you might have names like Seamus Moynihan, Padraig Joyce, Darragh O'Se, Sean Cavanagh, Colm Cooper, Kieran McGeeney and a few others in football. For hurling I'd say Henry Shefflin, Tommy Walsh, Ken McGrath, Tony Browne, and DJ would have to be in there. From Cork, probably Diarmuid O'Sulliva, Joe Deane and Ben O'Connor.

Henry Shefflin could be named a legend now never mind in 20years time.

Gouch and Joe Canning will be legends.
