Current GAA Legends

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Which current GAA players do you think will still be revered in 20 30 40 years time, much like today we still think of Tony Doran, Sean O'Neill, Mick O'Connell, Kevin Heffernan, Mick Mackey etc?

I will start the ball rolling with Tony Browne. Absolute 100% Legend.

Agree about Cavanagh Liam but I think O'Neill is a class act as well. Seen him play many a time and the lad is pure class. That point against us in the league last year defied logic. Unbelieveable talent to be able to do that..

Lads, many of the players ye are naming are without doubt quality players and class acts one and all
BUT ye are being wayyy too generous
I am talking absolute all time bona fide GAA greats. Fellas whose names will resound forever in GAA circles. The likes of
Maurice Fitzgerald, Peter Canavan, Darragh O'Se, Gooch Cooper, Damien Fitzhenry, Tommy Walsh and Henry Shefflin.

Not Michael Donnellan, Ciaran Whelan, Jayo, Stevie O'Neill, Dermot Earley or Declan Sullivan . They are all superb players but I dont think they are Tony Doran/Mick O'Connell Figures, do you?

532902 Sean Cavanagh must be a cert.

I dunno if he'd be a cert just yet. an outstanding footballer no doubt, but the next few years will say alot. He still has age on his side so he is well capable of doing it, but I think its too soon to judge on him just yet!

Legends tend to be the players who define the team, who are the most prominent, Canavan was in big part the catalyst to Tyrone success, Maurice Fitz carried an average Kerry team, Gooch maybe for his phenomenal scoring rate, McGeeney for being the inspirational figure & driving force in Armagh.

Others will be legends in their own counties ie. Jayo & Whelan, Geraghty, Eamon O'Hara in Sligo, Owens in Fermanagh, McHale in Mayo, Mickey Linden & James McCartan in Down, & Patrique in Antrim.

Please ignore loyal2theroyal as he has an anti Galway / Joe Canning agenda. Suffice to say that Joe Canning has already won 8 AI's in different grades with his club and county which is 8 more than any Meath hurler and also more than Henry Shefflin had won at that age!
